About Me

I'm Shaheen from the UK and currently teaching in Shanghai in China. I have taught in Abu Dhabi and the UK. I have extensive International experience teaching non native speakers of Arabic, Chinese, Korean, Indian, Pakistani, Malaysian, Czech, Russian, French, Dutch, Swedish and many more nationalities. We will then look at recognition of letters and sounds using our Phonics knowledge and use this to recognise and read the first 100 high frequency words.

I was born in Istanbul in 1983. I started teaching Turkish while studying Turkish Language and Literature at university. I worked in a language school and at universities. I have been teaching Turkish professionally for more than 16 years. I also taught Turkish for 5 years when I was a university student. In 2018, I obtained a TESOL certificate and also began teaching English.

I use the course book set prepared by Istanbul University. It follows a strategic approach to learning Turkish and includes all language skills—reading, grammar, writing, listening, watching, and speaking—from A1 to C2. All of these skills are essential for conversation.

I teach English for the A1 and A2 levels.

The workbook offers many exercises for homework or revision, and I support the book with my own authentic materials. I also use an interactive board that you can view anytime, and you can edit it as well. Repetition-based speaking practice plays an important role in my lessons.

I speak English well, and a bit of Italian, and I have also studied Persian and German grammar. I am interested in literature.
