Hello! I'm Joey - I'm a qualified Modern Foreign Languages teacher with a specialism in Spanish.

Languages and particularly Spanish have become my passion and I really love sharing this passion with others who are interested in it.
I’m British, but started learning Spanish at school, I then went on to live in Spain, changed my original degree to study Spanish and Italian and then lived in Spain again!
This is one of the key reasons I can really help you on your Spanish learning journey - I have been through it myself! I know what mistakes are easily made, what gets confusing between English and Spanish and what pronunciation is particularly difficult, so I can guide you more thoroughly.

About Me

I love languages and honestly believe they can really help us to connect with new people, cultures and opportunities which can lead to life-changing experiences. I have first-hand experience with this and so can truthfully say that learning a language has undoubtedly changed my life.
I love teaching and not only do I want to teach you a language or help you on your language learning journey, but I’d also love to help you enjoy the learning process and build your confidence while doing so.

I believe that everyone learns in their own unique way and so I try to adapt lessons to each person’s learning style as much as possible. I also believe that people should feel as comfortable and confident as possible when learning languages and therefore, I aim to establish a positive, relaxed and fun environment in my lessons in which students can enjoy the experience, get the most out of it and not be afraid to make mistakes, as this is all part of the process!

The main things I would love for you get out of lessons with me: a sense of accomplishment, feeling more confident and comfortable using the language you're learning and that you have fun achieving your goals.

BA Spanish and Linguistics with Italian - University of Southampton.
PGCE in Modern Foreign Languages - University of Southampton.

Experience / Qualifications

I have delivered online Spanish lessons with adults at complete beginner level - we looked at the basics, followed by appropriate vocabulary for travelling, followed by grammar.
I have also had face-to-face and online lessons with native Spanish speakers who are living in the UK and who wanted to improve their English grammar and conversational skills.
I have also tutored KS3 and KS4 students in Spanish and Italian.

I have taught Spanish and French in a UK secondary school, teaching students from age 11-16, following the national curriculum for Modern Foreign Languages for Key Stages 3 and 4. I also have experience as a Spanish Foreign Language assistant where I help Key Stage 3, 4 and 5 students with their Spanish speaking and conversational skills, ready for their GCSE and A Level exams.

I have lived in Spain for over a year, during my gap year and as part of my university degree. I worked as an au pair and was responsible for looking after and teaching a young child English on a daily basis. I also worked as an English language assistant in a primary and secondary school, helping students with their English speaking and conversational skills.
