Hi, I'm Axel, I have been working as a private French tutor for five years. As a native speaker of French with a first-class degree in French Literature from Le Mirail University of Toulouse. I moved to Glasgow 7 years ago to work as a visual artist. I have a wealth of experience tutoring a wide range of people of all levels, from beginners to university students. I therefore possess a thorough understanding of the learning process and the specific difficulties students can face. Consequently, I have developed efficient methods of overcoming these on an individual basis. In my tutorials, I believe learning is most effective when it happens in a relaxed and comfortable environment. I therefore focus on engaging with students in a friendly manner making my lessons as interactive as they should be. In addition to my degree, I am a qualified youth group leader with extensive experience teaching drama and art to children in schools and different institutions. I have worked as a customer service agent for 4 years in London before moving here perfecting my level of formal English. Furthermore I am a recent fine art graduate able to adapt my lessons to a more creative/visual learner. I offer 1 hour sessions. I'm also happy to discuss longer sessions. I also offer group tuition, which has many educational benefits - please contact me if you would like to discuss this. I can travel anywhere within the Glasgow city area and can meet with students in their homes, or in a cafe/library. I am also happy to teach on zoom depending on your availability. If that's something you could be interested in, please get in touch! References available upon request. Looking forwards to working with you soon. Axel

In this ESOL class, I will be preparing students for the Life in the UK test, which is a requirement for those seeking British citizenship or settlement. The class will begin with an overview of the test format, including the types of questions and topics covered. The curriculum will be structured around the key content areas of the test, such as British history, traditions, customs, and the political system. Each lesson will focus on a specific topic, with interactive activities designed to help students understand and retain the information. For example, a lesson on British history might include a timeline exercise, where students match significant events with their corresponding dates and discuss their importance. To enhance understanding and engagement, I will use a variety of teaching methods, including group discussions, multimedia presentations, and role-playing scenarios. These activities not only make the learning process enjoyable but also help students develop their speaking and listening skills, which are crucial for the test. Additionally, the class will include practice tests and quizzes to assess students' progress and identify areas where they may need further support. I will provide tips and strategies for effective test-taking, such as time management and how to handle multiple-choice questions. Throughout the course, I will create a supportive and inclusive learning environment, encouraging students to ask questions and share their experiences. By the end of the class, students will feel confident and well-prepared to take the Life in the UK test, with a deeper understanding of British culture and society.

Trusted teacher: Setswana is a rich, rhythmic language spoken in Botswana, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. Belonging to the Bantu family, it closely resembles other languages in the region. I have found learning Setswana through several terrific teachers, thorough textbooks and daily life enriching. Growing up in Botswana, speaking this beautiful and intricate language, or at least making an effort to do so, can transform the way you live in Botswana. I have taught semester-long regular beginners Setswana lessons to children aged 7-12 and adults, with strong emphasis on understanding grammar by breaking it down into “formulas” for how to form tenses and sentences. I teach these and vocabulary through a mix of traditional explanatory lectures, practice exercises and creative games, accompanied by study techniques I have found very useful for learning foreign languages. I have also worked as a trained English tutor, and study linguistics at university, both of which have shaped me to better understand and teach language. Each class will consist of grammar formulas (eg: basic conjugation in the present tense: linking pronoun [for the human noun class group, for example: ke=I, o=you, o=him/her, re=we, le=you plural, ba=they] + “tla” [as in “will”] + verb), some vocabulary words, spoken or written exercises or games to go through together and longer practice exercises to build independent confidence. My teaching materials I use I developed whilst living in Botswana, and have already been used with my aforementioned classes. I hope they can help you too !
