My name is Helen. I have a BSc Honours degree from the University of Herts, a PGCE from Bath Spa University and 68 Masters degree credits in “Autism in children “ from the University of Birmingham. S........ report for maths was glowing. The teacher said she’d rarely seen such a rapid change in ability and confidence. Thank you!”

Long-Term Mathematics Tutoring for Those Who Struggle
I specialize in facilitating learning experiences to those struggling to see math's beauty and usefulness, yet willing to exert the effort necessary to discover on their own under gentle guidance. My strength is that I can discern the roots of shallow understanding. This gift stemming from my long tutoring experience enables me to build up students' foundations from the very point they started to struggle. This method may be slower but pays off well beyond the tutoring sessions. Thus, if you are looking for a long-term tutor who can lead you to the joy of independence and insights, I can be a person for you.

Kristy
Experienced primary maths teacher offering maths lessons using a Maths Mastery approach in London
**In light of recent developments, I am now available for daytime lessons in person and online via Skype, Zoom or Google Hangouts** I have availability immediately and throughout the summer. I specialise in tutoring maths for primary mainstream and SEN children. I use a Maths Mastery Method which begins with using concrete materials to model problems. Next, I represent these materials with pictures and diagrams. Finally, I move to the abstract where numbers and symbols are used to make a number sentence to represent a problem. I break down concepts into small steps and provide repetition with variety so that students can apply and generalise their knowledge to a range of contexts to gain procedural fluency and a holistic understanding. I spend significant time developing a strong knowledge of the foundations of maths and key ideas that are needed to underpin future learning. Connections within maths are emphasised so that students develop deep learning. Students are encouraged to look for patterns and relationships, think mathematically and talk about their findings. In order to reduce the demand on students' memory to free up more space for the learning of new concepts, we also focus on learning to automaticity key facts such as times tables, number bonds and addition facts. I review progress with children and parents and give advice on practical strategies in order to support learners in the home.
