Private trumpet and music theory lessons in Amsterdam

Private trumpet and music theory lessons in Amsterdam

Currently studying classical trumpet at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, I started my musical studies in Guyana and New Caledonia. When I arrived in Paris, I had the chance to benefit from the teaching of Guy Touvron (Schola Cantorum) and Clément Saunier (CRR de Paris) for about 4 years. I was also able to benefit, through masterclasses, from the advice of great world-famous trumpeters such as Allen Vizzuti (USA), Thomas Hooten (USA), Hakan Hardenberger (Sweden), David Guerrier (France), Miroslav Petkov (Bulgaria ) ... I suggest you discover and / or deepen the technique of the trumpet; having worked for a long time with a physiotherapist specialized for musicians, we will be able to address points such as posture, breathing techniques, projection, opening of sound .... Essential points for building a game that is both healthy and staff ! Also, my teaching combines music theory and the aspects allowing to better understand and feel the music, that is to understand at the same time in a theoretical and musical way what the score releases. These two traits of learning are a basis which to my taste brings a technical solidity and an artistic sensibility closely linked. I will guide you for the choice of material (trumpet, mouthpiece, mutes etc ...) and on the purchase of sheet music for beginners and / or those who need advice on their instruments. I can move around Amsterdam, and you can contact me for more details about the schedules. Hope to meet you !

Trumpet Lessons for all ages & stages, in classical & jazz and more!

Trumpet Lessons for all ages & stages, in classical & jazz and more!

Hi! I'm a professional trumpet player from Australia now based in Amsterdam. I've spent the past 10 years freelancing with some of Australia's best orchestras (Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria, Darwin Symphony Orchestra & Sydney Symphony Orchestra to name a few..), as well as recording sessions for pop/rock artists, film scores and music theatre. I've enjoyed diversifying my career by teaching in Australian schools, and now since I've moved I'm looking to help you with your goals now I'm here in Holland. I've taught students of all ages in classical, jazz, pop approaches to trumpet. My lessons are catered to your interests and your personal development. If you're an absolute beginner, no worries! We'll get you from making fart sounds to fun melodies soon enough. If you're a bit more experienced and wanting to improve your technique, you've come to the right place! I was lucky enough to be taught by some excellent heavyweight pedagogues in the scene, including David Elton (principal trumpet of London Symphony Orchestra and Sydney Symphony Orchestra), and Tristam Williams (international soloist). I've taken masterclasses with Wycliffe Gordon, Adam Rapa, James Morrison, Wayne Bergeron, Phillip Smith to name a few. I've got so much to share with you from those incredible teachers! And I've also formulated my own pedagogy along the way that I really believe in.

Trumpet, Improvisation & Music Theory Lessons (Beginner and Intermediate)

Trumpet, Improvisation & Music Theory Lessons (Beginner and Intermediate)

Did you ever hear a tune and you felt like you wanted to just play over it? Did you ever feel like you’d like to discover what makes a tune that special? I can help you to understand how music works and what makes it such an incredible art form! Listening to what you want and need, I can make a tailored plan with you on what you’d like to learn and get you going in the instrument and in your theory. Whether you’re a complete beginner of picking back the trumpet we can work together and make this journey as fun as possible. I teach Trumpet in the multiple styles that you might have come across - being jazz, salsa, disco, pop or funk. In case you’d like to learn more about how to improvise on the trumpet we can also tackle that and get you going, all while having fun! I teach all ages and from absolute beginner to Intermediate players. I speak English, Portuguese, Spanish, and I’m also taking my steps into learning Dutch, even though music is such a universal language. I live in Amsterdam and you can learn at my studio in NDSM, or I can come and meet where you are! It is also possible to arrange lessons in the center of Amsterdam, close to Centraal Station. About me? I’m Luso-american musician who moved to Amsterdam to study jazz trumpet at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where I’m currently finishing my bachelor degree. I started playing the trumpet when I was 9 years old, and since then my passion for music just kept on growing bigger. My main focus as a jazz musician was big band playing, where I’m specialised in lead trumpet playing, however I kept myself open to different styles being part of Afrobeat bands, playing in small formations, such as trios or just playing some groovin’ music from Earth Wind & Fire or Kool & The Gang.

“ I have been playing trumpet for about 5 years, growing every time. I wanted a new trumpet teacher to help my trumpet technique and skill of improvisation. From the first lesson I really liked Oleg. He has a natural way of teaching, is very knowledgeable, and respectful to your level. He is really a good teacher, and worth signing up with. Recommend 100%. I am still happily going to Oleg, every week! ”

“ Can highly recommend Andrea. He was highly passionate about helping me improve and even spent extra time outside the lesson to help me fully grasp a topic or provide some extra material. I came in with pretty specific goals, and he listened to them and adapted the lessons to fit my preferences. On top of all that that his skill and love for the trumpet and jazz is obvious and infectious. ”

“ My son had his first lesson with Rocco last week, and he loved it. Rocco is kind and encouraging, and he transmitted his love of music through his coaching. Rocco shared a wealth of material for my son to practice. We are happy to be working with him! ”
