I devise lesson plans in advance of every lesson, catered to the student's specific needs. – Academic lessons tend to be structured around specific sections of the syllabus, or particular topics that students require help with. – I employ a seminar style format. I flesh out ideas with the aid of quotations, other audio-visual resources, and analytical commentary which my students can use to develop essays, essay plans, revision tools, and exam revision packs. – I use Powerpoint to provide students with a variety of resources and visual stimuli. – I structure my lesson plans with a view to providing short points of rest or temporary closure, in which students are able to ask questions about the content. I am also happy for students to interrupt the flow of the lesson if a burning question arises. Lesson Structure – Academic lessons tend to be 45–60 minutes in length, but I can adapt my teaching schedule to provide students with additional support if needed. Academic Credentials – I am studying for a PhD in Music at the University of Cambridge. – I hold an MPhil in Music from the University of Cambridge, where I specialised in Historical Musicology and Musical Aesthetics. – I have a first-class music degree (74.4%) from the University of Manchester, where I won three Hargreaves Prizes for Academic Achievement. I studied violin with Julia Hanson (formerly of the RNCM) and Sophie Rosa (soloist, former teacher at the RNCM and Cheethams School of Music). – I hold a distinction (92%) for an ATCL Diploma in Violin Performance. I have published 4 collection so f tune books from simple beginners to advanced Donegal fiddle tunes. I have a teaching Diploma from ceoltas in Dublin which is the main traditional Irish music organisation in Ireland. I learned to teach by ear which is the accepted way of learning folk tunes. My life is all about music and creativity. I'm a proudly self-taught multi-instrumentalist and an eternal student. EARLY CAREER I worked in London as a session musician and touring drummer and pianist for more than 10 years with Shaw Thing Artist Management. I played with talent including Joy Crookes at much-loved places such as The Roundhouse, Abbey Road and The Edinburgh Festival. I also worked as a private tutor during this time, helping 50+ children and adults learn drums, piano and bass - many of whom got all the way to Grade 8. TODAY In 2022 I moved to Brighton for a new musical chapter. I now work as a composer/sound designer and creative director for award-winning artistic projects and brands including premium travel company Kuoni. I’m my happiest when I’m creating and making things happen, co-ordinating talented teams to get the job done. I also offer a transcription service, delivering detailed scores which I create by ear. My lessons are tailored to each student’s age, experience, and goals. Children (7–12 years old) For younger students, lessons focus on building confidence while making learning fun. We begin with simple vocal warm-ups and ear training to develop pitch and intonation, then move on to singing their favourite songs, encouraging good vocal habits in an enjoyable way. Teenagers (12-17 years old) With teenage students, we start with more structured vocal warm-ups and exercises. As we discover their natural voice, we work on developing a comfortable vocal range, improving technique, and applying these skills through songs that suit their voice and interests. Adults and seniors (18+) For adult students, lessons are usually divided into two parts. We begin with vocal technique, focusing on breathing, diaphragm support, scales, arpeggios, and intonation. We then apply these techniques through singing, helping you develop confidence, control, and healthy vocal habits. I will give you repertoire to study or we will study the pieces you have to prepare. The final goal will be to sing on a musical accompaniment. Every student learns at a different pace. Some may spend more time building a solid technical foundation before moving on to more challenging repertoire, and that’s perfectly fine. My priority is to ensure that every student feels comfortable, supported, and confident throughout their vocal journey. I teach children, teenagers, and adults and seniors from complete beginners to advanced singers. My classical training provides a strong technical foundation that can be applied to any musical style, whether you enjoy pop, musical theatre, jazz, rock, or classical singing.
