Have you always wanted to learn the flute but never knew where to start? Are you a student confused by your school lessons and wanting a little bit of practice outside of class? My name is Sachi, I'm an American-trained flautist, and I'd like to make learning an instrument accessible, fun, and easy for musicians of all ages and abilities. I am a 3rd year student at the University of Bath, but I first picked up music when I was 12. Growing up in America, I had the opportunity to participate in marching band, concert bands, wind ensembles, and orchestras. However, it was only when I began taking private lessons that I realized how incredible and transformative music can be. My lessons instilled a sense of discipline, confidence, and love for the arts that I would now like to share with you. This course begins with the basics, but can be adjusted for whatever level you are at! Items on the course include: - Flute set up: hand position and stability - Beginner's guide to reading music - Sight-reading - Tone and the 'sweet spot' - Breathing - From Classical to Baroque to Modern and everything in between! - Flute music from around the world - Extended techniques (singing and playing, harmonics) - ABRSM prep If you have any questions feel free to get in touch. Music stand, flute stand, and beginner practice books would be helpful but can be purchased at a later date or lent from me.

My musical path started at Moscow Jurgenson Music School in Russia at the age of 7 where I took my first piano and music theory lessons. After 8 years of full-time studying I graduated with distinction. In 2015, I graduated from Goldsmiths, University of London specialising in classical and contemporary performance (under Andrew Zolinsky) and music education. Recently, I have completed my masters programme at Goldsmiths, University of London specialising in contemporary musicology (under Keith Potter) and music management. Since 2012, I have been performing and premiering contemporary classical music solo or with ensembles at various venues and events, including IKLECTIK, Arebyte Gallery, Sound Festival, Southbank Centre, Cheltenham Music Festival and Teatro Baltazar Dias (Madeira, Portugal). I am a core member of the New Maker Ensemble, a group dedicated to experimenting with various art forms of new music and performance art. I regularly write articles and album reviews about new music. I have given lectures and presentations on new music at various conferences and events, including the Gnesin Contemporary Music Week 2020, 2021 and 2022, the Gnesin Academy and ZIL Culture Centre. And I even have my own podcast about new music. Tuition is open for both online and in-person classes. All ages and abilities welcome: from age 5 to adult learners, beginner to advanced. His passion and commitment to music led him to working at guitar repair workshops around the capital city, including Camden Town and the well-known Denmark Street. He later taught Brit Award-winners Bastille how to play the traditional rhythms of his home country.
