Nathan has been playing Guitar and studying Music for over 15 years, from Primary School right through to the current day in University. Beginning just under a year ago, Nathan has thoroughly enjoyed passing on his enthusiasm and passion for Guitar and Music alike through tutoring. Nathan has several qualifications in Music, including GCSE, A Level and First Class honours in Musical Arts (BA) and, starting with a Masters, he hopes to add to these qualifications in the future. Nathan’s teaching style revolves around his students and therefore adapts to the different students he is teaching, considering their skill level, age and personality when approaching each lesson. Alongside teaching, Nathan is hugely passionate about playing in his Function Band, recording and mixing songs and of course listening to music almost none stop. Nathan teaches Guitar from beginners to intermediate level players and teaches Music Theory up to grade 5 of all ages. Nathan’s lessons include breaking down the fundamentals of both guitar ad theory, from posture, fingering technique, scales, arpeggios, chords, rhythm, melody and anything else the student wishes to learn. He will teach any exam boards requested, preparing his students for their respective exams by breaking down each technical component previously mentioned with specific focus given to each section of the exam. Whether the student wishes to focus on melody, rhythm, chords or just playing their favourite band’s songs, he will devote all his energy to providing the required tutoring in helping his students fulfil these wishes, whilst enjoying themselves in the process. Nathan will give his all to teaching as many genres as he possibly can, although has vast experience in classical and pop music, particularly Funk, Rock and Jazz. His first lesson with any student will be relaxed, with the aim of figuring out the students skill level and what they wish to achieve through their lessons. The student simply needs to let Nathan know their priorities in terms of what they wish to learn and their enthusiasm in achieving this. It is common for Nathan to prepare warm-up exercises for his students, such as stretching exercises for the wrists and hands, along with exercises to develop the technique of each hand, for example finger/plectrum exercises and chromatic scales.

I have a real passion for music and that's why I would love to help inspire and guide new musicians on their quest to learn the violin. Age is irrelevant when it comes to my lessons but the most important thing is that the student comes with a real incentive to learn. Everyone's musical journey is different and many people decide to learn an instrument for a different reason. Therefore, the regular structure for a lesson would very much differ from person to person. For example, beginners would mostly focus on sight-reading, proper form and technique. However, someone with a slight musical background could begin by learning pieces that they want to play and I would guide them with how to encompass the piece better and make slight adjustments to their technique along the way. When it comes to young children, I've worked in nursery and primary schools with ages from 3-7. The most important thing is that they have fun during the lessons and gain a real respect for music early on. Technique, theory and sight-reading are still incredibly important but what's most important is that the child is having an enjoyable time while learning. I have a strong musical background as I've been playing violin and piano for 14 years, I also have a great understanding of music theory. I've performed in multiple concerts of sizes of up to 5000 attendees. I was also established enough to have achieved a full music scholarship to a performing arts secondary school and college. At GCSE I achieved an A* in music and I would be more than happy to help GCSE music students with their music theory and/or composition piece.

Trusted teacher: I have over 10 years of music composition, production, and performance experience. Having studied at The Royal Birmingham Conservatoire (Jazz Guitar) and Leeds Conservatoire (Jazz and Production), I incorporate my education background in jazz and classical music to bring an in-depth perspective on teaching the likes of the guitar, music theory, composition, and production for a range of ages and abilities. I can also provide additional support for students studying GCSE/A-Level Music, as well as delivering unique and personalized lesson plans tailored to musicians’ and artists’ own career goals and aspirations (from recording to music business). I teach in both 1-1 and small group scenarios, both online and face to face. As an actively recording and touring artist and session musician, I have worked with a huge array of different musicians, artists, and producers and have been exposed to a broad range of genres worldwide. I use this knowledge and experience to bring a unique and fresh approach to teaching music in range styles and techniques, from Jazz to Hip-Hop to Classical Music - whether that by analyzing and examining a tune together, learning to improvise over your favorite piece of music, or simply playing for the fun of it. It is important that I grasp an understanding of where my students are at with their instrument or subject before we begin learning together so that I can plan and ensure I approach the lesson in the right way. I provide materials in advance of a lesson, such as worksheet activities or listening references, to allow enhanced learning as well as efficiency during sessions. Most of all, it is important that my students feel relaxed and that they are learning what they love. I make it my challenge to bring something fresh and new to every lesson.
