Hello!

I am a musician offering tutorials in piano, trumpet, cornet, harmony, counterpoint, theory, and other general music-y things in English! I’m also available to direct rehearsals and concerts.

Music Theory is important to all classical musicians. It not only compliments their practical activities, it is essential in being able to read and understand the music they play. Topics covered will include clefs, time signatures (simple, compound, irregular, and irrational - e.g. 7/6 - for students who want a challenge), chords, keys, rhythms, and harmony. Once the basics are mastered, students begin to focus more on harmony and counterpoint, examining and learning to write chorales in the style of J.S. Bach, before moving on to fugues and looking at the ways in which other composers have used harmony. I also have knowledge of jazz harmony and am able to discuss this with students if they wish. Contrary to popular belief, music theory isn't boring!

I have also taught over Skype in the past, where there’s the option of screen sharing, making it possible to demonstrate things on screen.

My name's Dave and I've been a full-time professional musician for the past 15 years. I work predominantly as a performing and recording session musician and also as a private guitar tutor. I'm sure it will come as no surprise when I say that I absolutely love the guitar. My biggest goal in teaching guitar is to share with you my passion for this instrument and to help you gain as much enjoyment from it as I have for most of my life. My lessons have a highly tailored approach as I believe all students to be individuals and as such, they will always have different goals and ambitions, different ways of learning and varying rates of progression. I specialise in all popular contemporary musical styles on both electric and acoustic guitar as well as having a highly in-depth knowledge of musical theory, songwriting and composition. The needs of the pupil come first, and the lessons will be designed to accommodate those first and foremost, in this way I will employ my Jazz training to improvise the best possible lesson based on those needs.

That said, a foundational structure of rudiments and essential theoretical knowledge is key to a productive lesson, and hopefully a pinch of fun, too!

I have bags of experience teaching music, and I'm happy to teach to all levels of drummer. Having acquired a degree at a conservatoire, I have the skills required to deliver you the highest level of tutelage.

I'm teaching music since 2013 and hold Indian classical Diploma, Western music all grade certificates in guitar and a MA graduate in Music Production from Derby, UK.
I enjoy composing music so bringing all notes to life with different sounds is a different feeling altogether., Teaching all these styles to new students is really fun and challenging at times. However It can be acquired with maintaining proper balance with music theory and practical knowledge.

With my teaching methods and approach towards my subject, I will mould every student into a good musician provided with all the knowledge they would require to settle down in the industry. Exams are inevitable so all Interested students can prepare for certifications under my supervision.

I have been teaching students of all ages and abilities for the past ten years. I began my teaching practice while pursuing a Bachelor of Music Performance at the Royal Irish Academy of Music, Dublin, inheriting students from my father (also a violin teacher) and later teaching the younger students of my violin professor. Following my studies in Ireland, I moved to the United Kingdom, where I obtained a Master of Music Performance from the Royal College of Music, London and an Advanced Postgraduate Diploma from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, both with distinction. During my studies, I taught extensively across the London and Birmingham areas, both in person and online, taking one to one lessons and group ensembles. In my teaching, I follow the ABRSM grade system alongside a vast selection of relevant study books and pieces/sonati/concerti, individually tailored to the needs and requirements of each student, allowing an enjoyable, rewarding and worthwhile musical experience.

As I work full time with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, teaching spaces are limited and a certain level of flexibility in scheduling may be required at times due to the changing nature of the orchestra's weekly timetable and touring schedule.
