I will introduce myself. My name is Lotte, I am 23 years old and I study Medicine at the VU in Amsterdam. In high school I attended bilingual education and lived for six months in Australia for my education. In addition, I also followed a minor Academic English at the VU. I have also been with my boyfriend, who is from London, for 2 years now. So, enough practice with the English language!

During this course I will help you to learn to speak, write, read and listen better English. We mainly do this through assignments that can be made online on a laptop. I’m a former primary school teacher with over eight years of private tutoring experience in Amsterdam. I’ve worked with students attending Dutch, British and other international schools, including the British School and ISA, and am familiar with the different curricula and expectations.

I specialise in working with students with ADHD and other learning differences. Alongside teaching the subject, I help with the things that can make schoolwork difficult: getting started, staying focused, organising assignments and knowing what to do when you feel stuck. This might mean breaking work into smaller steps, trying a different explanation or taking a break before coming back to a problem. I take the time to get to know each student and understand what works for them.

I teach maths, English and other primary school subjects, with particular experience supporting children who are learning in English as a second language. Students come to me for different reasons: some need help keeping up at school, some have lost confidence, and others enjoy a subject and want more of a challenge. I want them to feel comfortable asking questions and saying when something doesn’t make sense.

Before moving to Amsterdam, I taught all subjects in Grades 1 and 2 at a private international school in Dubai. Learning languages are always more fun when involving an interaction based on personal interests! That's why I could take a more conventional approach to teaching but I prefer an interactive engaging type of class. We can start with basic daily life based conversations to delving into more detailed and specific contexts, to a level where any types of topics can be covered.
