Hello, my name is Marlou. I was nine years old when I first held a guitar. It was love at first sight. I always have my guitar with me. I've been teaching for ten years, and after a year of lessons, one of my students uttered the unforgettable line: "My guitar is my soulmate." With a guitar, you have a friend for life. I want everyone to experience that.
Everyone learns differently. Some people want to learn notes and visualize sheet music, while others play by ear. Some want to hear a song first and sing it without a guitar, while others want to play along right away. It's all possible. In your first lesson, you can tell me what you want to learn, and I tailor my lessons accordingly.
After each lesson, I'll give you exercises to practice at home. The more you practice at home, the faster we'll progress. If you'd like, you can record the lesson so you can listen to it again at home and practice along with it.
I'll teach you all the basic chords. I'll pay close attention to your guitar posture and the way you place your hands and fingers on the guitar. The better you master the basic chords, the easier it will be to learn new and more complex things later. I can also teach you how to strum the guitar. And if you're interested, I can teach you how to read music.

If you'd like to learn to sing while you perform, I can teach you simple tricks to make singing easier. I'm not a singing teacher, but thanks to my initial training in speech therapy, CVT (Complete Vocal Training) singing lessons, and my stage experience as a singer, I have extensive knowledge of learning proper breathing and training your breath support. I can also teach you how to overcome your shyness, if that's your problem. Playing and singing at the same time will then become a lot of fun.

Extra information

You can take lessons on a classical nylon-string guitar or an electric guitar. If you'd like to take lessons afterward, bringing your own guitar is recommended.

About Me

After my first encounter with the guitar, I started taking lessons in Hilversum, where I'm from. After a few weeks, I could already play three chords, which allowed me to start singing simple songs. Soon, you could find me around the campfire during all my holidays in France. To further develop my skills, I took lessons at the music school with teacher Ton Braas. He taught me to play classical guitar, which helped me develop my strumming skills. Years later, I started singing in a jazz trio. We performed jazz standards from the realm of music. Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, to name just a few of my favorite singers. I also played and sang in a piano-guitar-vocal duo, performing French repertoire.

Music, playing guitar, singing. It's stayed with me my whole life. Even when I went to film school and started making documentaries. I've made many music documentaries.
Besides filmmaking, I enjoy teaching guitar on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. I've been doing so for five years now. I want to share with you the joy I experienced with the guitar as a child.

I teach children from ages 4 up to the conservatory level. My main teaching approach is based on the principles of the Suzuki Method. What is the Suzuki Method?
Developed by Shin'ichi Suzuki, a Japanese violinist, and pedagogue who was one of the most influential ones of the 20th century. He believed that since very young children could master the complexity of their native language, they could also master playing the violin.

Private lessons for beginners to advanced level of flute playing. All ages are welcome. I am a professionally trained teacher and flutist for almost two decades. My lessons are given in English, Spanish and (soon) Dutch.

My teaching method is variable depending on the students' needs, but the goal is shared: to make a great musician and qualified flutist out of the pupil. I work on both technical and musical aspects from a healthy and enjoyable perspective. Particular emphasis on having fun with the little ones!
