About Me

Hey! I'm Elize and I've been immersed in music all of my life.

I started studying music at the age of three because of my mother who's a choir conductor and singer so I would join her in choirs at that age - later I was part of many choir collectives, singing festivals and vocal performances. At the age of five I started playing cello in music school and started to truly learn theory and music history. Three years later I started learning piano, too. I've been studying, performing, writing ever since - and I've been professionally teaching cello, piano, theory and composition for the last six years.

I've performed as a soloist, chamber musician and part of an orchestra. It's difficult to think of a genre I haven't performed for an audience. Not only have I been involved with academic music but I've been part of big bands, jazz ensembles, function bands and rock bands. I've been a session musician and a lone entertainer - all of these experiences have made me a better musician and I choose to focus my experience to help others on their musical journey.

I just graduated from one of the best music universities in the world - the Royal College of Music and, while it was a challenging experience, it gave me a lot of valuable insight on how we best process musical information and what we sometimes do that's wasteful.

Experience / Qualifications

Six years of teaching privately and professionally.
I've also tutored in summer workshops at the Latvian Music Festivals in Madona, Latvia.
Feel like picking up a new hobby? Want to refresh your knowledge? Looking for a new way to be creative? Why not learn how to read and write music - who knows, maybe you're a composer at heart? I have created a seven step program that takes you through the basics and teaches how to recognize clefs, range, and expands the limits of possibilities. While day 1 is an introduction on the build of music and what notes are, by day 5 you already understand how key signatures work and how to write down a tune that you hear somewhere. Or, maybe, you have an instrument and always wanted to be able to pick up a piece of music and be able to play it? Or, perhaps, it is time to become the composer and notate your creations to better remember and share? Whatever it might be, learning to read and write music gives you a new, exciting skill and opens a door to a whole new world!
No matter where you are in your musical journey, theory is necessary to gain musical freedom. Even knowing the basics allows an aspiring musician to start creating arrangements, compose, transpose, read music better, look for different colours in harmony, and much more. I have designed a course that will bring students through the aspects of theory, notation, harmony, structure and form to help them become more fluent in reading, composing or performing.

Guitar workshops: personalized lessons / private training
Folk or classical acoustic guitar. The teaching philosophy is adapted to the level of each individual, according to the pace of work and motivation. For example, for beginners: Technique of the plectrum or fingers, coordination and correction of the right and left hand. Learning basic chords, simple themes, simple rhythms, reading tablatures (…). For intermediaries: development of rhythm, construction of chords, writing of tablatures, basic notions of harmony (…). Depending on your goals, you can learn, if you wish, to play 60 to 80% of current music from the first lessons, which often use the same chords and the same techniques. The objectives take into consideration the following points: -Study of various playing techniques, chords, harmony, music of your choice, rhythm, with reading of tablature, teaching structured around the repertoire you like, technique of developing the musical ear - Discovery of the neck, notes and basic positions of open chords - Left / right hand coordination and rhythm exercises for the right hand - Learning of different pieces of your choice - Left hand control exercises, speed and precision - Learning arpeggios - Work around muscle memory - Learning improvisation, musical play with others - Ear training: use your ears to find chords, melodies, sounds and techniques used -Spend a pleasant moment of exchange, without unnecessary institutional pressure, while obtaining concrete results -Understand and discover the many facets of an exciting and user-friendly instrument - Benefit from personalized advice on your posture and certain pitfalls to avoid when starting alone -Adjust and clarify your self-taught knowledge - Learn tablatures / tabs & in English. Note : - Possibility to use the guitar available on site, during the test phase. - As our teacher is also a singing teacher, it is possible to combine the two disciplines: guitar + vocal instrument, and to work on synchronization, style and accuracy. - Possibility of offering this course (birthday, party, Christmas, event ...) to the person of your choice. THE TEACHER : Trained in Grande Ecole post-preparatory classes & Ivy League university in the United States, our teacher has specialized and has worked for more than 15 years, in Europe and North America, in the field, in renowned international public and private establishments, with careful pedagogy and methodology as the watchwords. PLACES : - Locations: Geneva-Lausanne-Friborg-Neuchâtel-Montreux-Bâle-Sion-Sierre-Morges-Bienne. But currently, only by videoconference in accordance with national recommendations on Covid. These sessions also seem to be perfectly unanimous since they have the advantages of direct (example: quality of the interaction), without its disadvantages (ex: loss of travel time), with additional advantages (ex: of notes on the chat, which can be reread afterwards). In this context, these videoconference sessions for which you have requested me, seem to arouse a certain enthusiasm (and a certain enthusiasm). At your request, I therefore continue to offer them.

Violin lesson. Depending on your level you will learn new techniques, positions and pieces.
Hello! I am a violin and piano student at the arts college in Brussels! I have played the violin all my life and would like to teach. The violin is certainly one of the most difficult instruments, which is why it is important to take private lessons, especially in the first few years. This is how you progress the fastest!

Cello lessons by concert artist and music school teacher. All ages and all levels. Progress assured!
Hello, I am a professional cellist with a master's degree from the Royal College of Music in London. Passionate about teaching music and the cello, I have been teaching for many years in music schools (music ensemble XX, passion leitmotif), conservatories (replacements) and in the private sector. There is no age to start playing an instrument: my adult students show me day after day! As for children, they can also start very early at the age of 4 and a half. (A few months depending on personality and facilities) My students benefit from comprehensive teaching, whether they are beginners or very advanced, and adapted to their personality and needs. You will quickly discover: I am a very positive and encouraging person, which allows my students to progress with serenity in a comfortable environment. If necessary, I teach the basics of music theory and music theory, being able to go in-depth according to the student's interest and needs. Musical ear, concentration, physical dispositions, memory, ability to adapt, curiosity, musical personality: all these characteristics, more or less present from the start, will develop over the course of the sessions, and you will be quickly proud of your progress. My priority in teaching the cello is to establish true well-being with the instrument, both physical and mental, with patience, involvement and constant adaptation to each person's functioning. With the rigor necessary for learning any art, I teach you patience and the joy of paying attention to details. Beginners: By obtaining a healthy and comfortable technique, you will quickly create beautiful tones. Discover the secrets of this instrument with its sound and range so close to the human voice, and its benefits on the mind. You will also discover beautiful pieces of classical music (among others!) that are affordable quite quickly, depending on your investment. You can also come with the pieces that you like, and that you would like to play. This can give a good goal, additional motivation! Amateurs and advanced: if you want to go further in interpretation, or overcome technical difficulties encountered when learning pieces, or simply deepen your cello learning. Advanced: If you wish to take an entrance exam into a music school or conservatory, or obtain additional lessons for a cello exam, some musical and mental "coaching" courses can help you. I help you strengthen your self-confidence and gently repair your bad habits. You will also be able to meet others, one day if you wish, in order to create little duets

Cello lessons from Bach to jazz to improvisation
Cello lessons should arouse joy and curiosity. My students will explore their instrument in their own way and find their own sound. It doesn't matter whether it's classical, new music, pop/jazz or improvisations, because it's about making music. Since I have a very broad background - I studied classical education, now I'm studying new music, I play in a band and a string quartet and improvise regularly - I'm very happy to pass on my knowledge and experience. The lessons will be very individualized because I respond to the students' wishes and ideas. Group lessons for up to three people are also possible. Since not everyone can afford lessons, I have a solidarity pricing system. Just ask directly if it concerns you.
