I have a diploma in singing, sat Grade 5 theory, and did A level Music, and I believe theory can be fun, not just a series of exams you have to pass in order to progress past grade five! We will work through resources from ABRSM and Theory is Fun to understand music theory. We will also put our learning into context, looking at scores of well known songs and signing/ playing along.

Since then, every musician in the West has relied on these 12 tones to compose virtually all the music we hear today. Hello, my name is Sebastián, I have been a guitarist for 20 years, I have a master's degree in education and 10 years of experience teaching music. I have designed this course to cover the concepts of notes, chords and arpeggios, intervals, harmony (classical and jazz), rhythmic figures, scales, etc. My goal is to be able to give you this knowledge so that you can apply it on a daily basis with your favorite instrument.

By taking online music classes in cello, piano, music theory, and composition, students can develop a well-rounded musical foundation. I am a composer, pianist and note editor who graduated from Bilkent University Faculty of Music and Performing Arts. I give one-to-one piano, music theory, harmony lessons over 20 years and I have been teaching in different academies with students aged between 5 and 60 including gifted children and learning disabling children. I also give Sibelius Software note editing program on every level. Preparation for LCM and ABRSM exams upon request are also available. The location and the days of the lessons are flexible. I teach for all levels, from children starting from zero to students who want to prepare certifications at the Conservatories, passing through amateurs or simply curious of any age. I firmly believe in the importance of knowing how to read music and this is exactly what I teach first, obviously adapting the method to the age of my students: knowing how to read music is knowing one more language, which, if learned well, won’t ever be forgotten (like riding a bicycle!) and it is an invaluable wealth. Starting from that point I teach the position of the hand, the arm and the whole body at the piano, the fundamentals of the piano technique (giving great importance to the percussive movement of the finger and the distribution of weight), the understanding of musical language, the expression of the personality through the keyboard, the search for touch and knowledge of piano repertoire.

In this class, we will be exploring music by learning your favorite songs from any genre you enjoy. I will personalize the lessons to your needs and make sure we cover all the fundamentals that will set you on the right track! I will teach you how to: - learn songs by ear, (pop, jazz r&b, funk, fusion, hip-hop, and whatever you like honestly) - improvise, - compose, - understand music theory (harmony, rhythm, scales, progressions, sight-reading etc.) - produce and sound design in Ableton. About me: Education: I started playing music at 7 years old, went through 12 years of music school, and then moved to Amsterdam and spent 4 years learning jazz guitar at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. I frequently play with various bands ranging from Pop and Funk to Jazz Fusion and even Techno. Teaching style: I’m open-minded and straightforward, and I focus on giving my students the tools and basics they need to learn and explore on their own.

I’m back in the states in Summer 2024. Here is my story: I started out as a jazz pianist but began dedicating myself to classical music around the age of 14. Two years later I was accepted to the prestigious Central Music School at the Moscow Conservatory. I lived in Russia until the age of 18, and even back then I had major success in international piano competitions. I moved to the US to study with a Van Cliburn Gold medalist under a full scholarship at Park University. I later got my Master’s in piano performance at Yale University. While in the US, I played all over the country and won close to ten international piano competitions. During the past two years I have lived in Germany, where I tried to absorb as much experience as possible about the German piano tradition. I am a U.S. green card holder now. My strategy is to teach you to practice as efficiently as possible. Most people are wasting their time practicing the instrument, then get frustrated and eventually abandon it. I will show you how to make your practicing meaningful. The goal is to make it easier and more enjoyable, not harder. I would describe my approach as hands-on, but I am willing to give students as much freedom as they choose. I often ask my students to send me a video recording of their performance so that we can track progress and discuss our goals and objectives together. I send a detailed lesson summary and practice instructions at the end of every lesson. I try to be polite but straightforward. My job is to encourage you but also be clear about what is getting in your way. I am a perfectionist and encourage my students to push the bar as high as is possible at the moment. Although I have experience as a jazz pianist, my formal training is as a classical pianist and I prefer to offer only classical music lessons, yet the repertoire can range from early baroque to the most recent contemporary.
