English from reception to A Level including comprehension, analysis, reading and writing skills.

I specialise in tutoring English for school from help with literacy for primary school students, SATS preparation for year 6 and GCSE for year 11s. My lessons are engaging and creative and always relevant depending on the independent students' needs. The focus is to cover the main misconceptions for students of each key stage in order to make absolutely sure there are no gaps left at the end of each academic year. We will look at comprehension, analysis, poetry, reading and writing skills. But the main thing is that the lessons are tailored for the needs of the student. I can come to students' homes, or teach from my home or teach online.

About Me

I began my career in journalism and wrote for several publications. I started out at a local newspaper The Richmond and Twickenham Times and grew my writing and researching skills during this time. After this, I branched out into trade journalism and worked for Brand Republic and Design Week magazines. I became skilful in researching and interviewing many clients for many topics. Writing both news and features for all publications I grew incredibly passionate about my career and went on to become deputy news editor for Design Week. I left full time work to have my children and decided to freelance while carrying out my English degree. I achieved a 2:1 at 69% at degree level. Following this, rather than rush straight into full time teaching I tutored students as well as working as an SEN teaching assistant for 3 years in order to support students in day to day tasks as well as academic work. I assisted SEN students by taking them out into the community and helped them with valuable life and social skills. I also assisted within a classroom environment with academic work. This is where I increased my confidence in the classroom, through interventions, behaviour management and many 1:1 situations. Through observing many teachers' practice I then made the decision to start my training as a secondary English teacher. As a trainee I was very soon tasked with the planning, marking and behaviour management of my groups. This responsibility grew as I took on more classes, making sure I was meeting the teaching standards at all times. At the same time as carrying out my SCITT training I also completed a PGCE. I achieved outstanding teacher status at the end of my training year. During my NQT year I was responsible for teaching English and Media to students of all ages within the secondary school environment as well as a form tutor for a year 7 group. I was fully responsible for planning all lessons, adding to the existing schemes of work, marking and feedback for all year groups up to and including GCSE. As part of my training year, I spent half a term in a school with a sixth form and taught one year 12 group A Level English literature. I was responsible for planning and teaching all lessons, marking, feedback and assessment. I was also responsible for pastoral and behavioural issues during my training year. I have excellent subject knowledge and the ability to teach often complex and abstract ideas in an understandable way. I am a mum of two living in beautiful North Devon and am fully committed and passionate about helping young people reach their full potential through teaching relevant, engaging and creative lessons.

English for professionals (refresher, fluency, conversation ...)
I offer you my services to make you truly performant oral / written in English. If you must use English as part of your professional activity and you do not feel comfortable ... If you're tired of being spotted right away like French ... If you do not know still not when to use the present perfect / the preterite .... I am here to help you. * Training linguist and author of textbook as such. => I am not a student in L1 who had a good grade in the Baccalaureate. I am a practicing, qualified teacher and holder of National Education. Teaching can not be improvised. This is something I feel I do well with 23 years of experience. I remind parents that to have 10/20 to the Baccalaureate, just have the level A2 (which is theoretically expected at the end of 3rd) so I let you imagine the despair of engineering students who must get at least 750 to the TOEIC! It's the equivalent of level B2!) * Daily monitoring possible via internet. * Each course gives rise to a detailed report. * In-depth knowledge of the European Framework. (A1 => C2) * Work of language activities. * Specialized in "phonology": intonation, word accent, links ... The grammar of the oral. * Adaptation to all levels: => College - High school: beginner, false beginner ... => Post-baccalaureate: TOEIC preparation, TOEFL, iELTS, Cambridge First Certificate, Advanced Certificate. => Oral and writings of the grandes écoles such as ENA => Oral and written business schools (Tremplin-Passerelle ...) => Engineering school: preparation for TOIEC.

French private lessons by university graduate in Letters
BE CAREFUL !!! IMPORTANT INFORMATION !!!! Due to the current situation, all of my courses are offered exclusively online at the moment. Thank you for your understanding. French private lessons are for students wishing: - consolidate their bases in grammar, spelling - improve their language skills (allophone students) - improve their speaking skills (conversation classes) -profect the written expression - ECR exams - prepare for the written examinations at the end of the studies (maturity, certificate of completion) - help with the writing of works of maturity (or other works of end of studies), of dissertation - work on argumentative texts - acquire a method to analyze literary texts - fill gaps - improve their spelling - prepare for oral exams (maturity, compulsory leaving certificates) - learn how to perform bibliographic research For help with writing: The objective is above all to acquire effective tools. The pupil will thus be able to learn to structure his ideas, to argue in a coherent (and convincing) way and to enrich his vocabulary. For the corrections of end of studies work: so that the meeting with the student is at the most profitable, I ask him to send me his writings before the meeting. Apart from my presence with the student, any course involves a preparation time before and after the lesson, including the work that I correct. My goal is to design an individualized course, so I take the time to write detailed comments on corrected work or tips to ensure maximum success for everyone. For example, an editorial correction can easily be the subject of a detailed commentary of 4 typewritten pages. For adults (FLE): In order to optimally prepare the first ones, I take the initiative to inform myself in advance of their objectives / expectations. Whether to practice speaking in everyday life, the professional world or to practice oral presentations, I prepare either PPT or technical sheets in advance that I send by mail ( after booking on the website). The other alternative is to make a PV of the course that I send (or that I print). Giving importance to keeping a written record on the one hand to better memorize the topics covered, on the other hand to better assimilate the spelling. Of a general nature, a concrete situation that responds to the learner's needs is the starting point. From this situation, I address the essential grammatical points.

Peishan
Chinese turor for Chinese/ Mandarin (simplified and traditional )
Giving my background in Foreign Languages and Literature as my bachelor study, and Adult and Continuing Education as my master degree, I gain great professional abilities in languages and education. Since I was 18 years old, I've been offering language teaching to the students, who are from 5-70 years old. I possess a wide range of Mandarin teaching experiences that I've given one-to-one and group classes before, and even online classes to people all over the world, through which I gained all the experiences teaching people with all the different culture and also all levels from A1-C2, and even with the clients who need to prepare for Mandarin verification exams( HSK, Hànyǔ Shuǐpíng Kǎoshì). When it comes to the most forgettable teaching experience I've ever had, I think it was my former job that I gave language and culture class in a community university for 3.5 years. There, I merged language teaching, diversified culture, with European and South-East Asian cooking, and it was certainly a great fun. I am now also working in the international school in Geneva for the IB exam system, which is pretty challenging, but it broadens my abilities. With more than 10 years of working in the Mandarin as well as English tutor/ teaching field, I believe my qualifications will match your learning requirements.

Turkish Lessons (In-Person OR Online) for Adults and Kids from an Experienced and Patient Teacher Living in Istanbul-Learn&Practice&Speak!
I have been teaching Turkish for 16 years. I started to teach when I was studying Turkish Language and Literature. I worked in a language school and at the universities, I suppose that I gained success. 😊 My achievements are directly proportional to my students’ success. My students are mostly the teachers, consulate officers, international business people, and also travellers. I feel rewarded when I witness their progress in applying their Turkish language skills to their daily lives. Over the years, I have met hundreds of people from all over the world, taught Turkish, and told them about Istanbul and Turkey. Those people told me about their countries and learned to express themselves in Turkish. For example, I ask them: “Do you like Istanbul?” in Turkish it is “İstanbul’u senior museum?” or “ Traffic is very bad in Istanbul!”, “İstanbul’ da çok Trafik var!” The basic but correct conversation is really important for self-confidence in any language. If a learner can master basic sentence forms, the rest will come much easier. On the other hand, making mistakes is also very important. Especially, a learner can not speak without making a mistake the first and second time. My students are always varied and have diverse learning skills. My professionalism also allows me to tailor language education according to individual interests, needs, and capacities. In the classroom, I hold firm three main principles: first, providing a comfortable environment, second, creating an encouraging atmosphere, and third, establishing a collaborative instruction model. I consider that I developed an aptitude for making learning Turkish to become much easier, enjoyable and practical for my students. I use a book prepared by a university in Turkey. I share the pdf version of the book for my lessons. I also adapt the materials according to the learner’s needs and support the book with my authentic materials. Even though I use a communicative approach, all my lessons are guided by a solid knowledge of grammar. On the online lessons, I send an e-mail after every lesson. That word file includes a vocabulary list, sentences (corrected and uncorrected versions, you can compare both of them easily), grammar point and homework for revision. In this way, you can find everything in a file well organized. When we have a face to face lesson, I give a hard copy of this list after every lesson. The lessons could be at my home office or in my student's house or office. I sometimes meet with my students in a coffee shop, I try to prefer silent places. :) How learning a new language opens a new window into a person, teaching Turkish is also the same for me! I was always interested in languages - I could speak a bit of Italian and learned Persian grammar except English. I always think about Istanbul -I was born and grew up here- it is a good place for self-improvement. First and foremost, Istanbul hosts international people coming from around the world. It is considering to me, I am lucky because I have one of the pleasant professions. When teaching Turkish, promoting cross-cultural awareness forms an important part of my lessons. Teaching the language involves both the students and myself in a dynamic conversation about our cultural backgrounds. Teaching Turkish is in fact not only teaching a language but also teaching a culture. I am interested in cinema, music and like visiting museums. I always share the activities with my students. I also teach Turkish to young learners. I started to study Child Development at Istanbul University as a second university in 2018. We say in Turkish, “Studies have no age!" If you want to speak Turkish well, please contact me. It is fun, and we will smile during the lesson!
