I specialise in tutoring English for school from help with literacy for primary school students, SATS preparation for year 6 and GCSE for year 11s. My lessons are engaging and creative and always relevant depending on the independent students' needs. The focus is to cover the main misconceptions for students of each key stage in order to make absolutely sure there are no gaps left at the end of each academic year. We will look at comprehension, analysis, poetry, reading and writing skills. But the main thing is that the lessons are tailored for the needs of the student. I can come to students' homes, or teach from my home or teach online.

About Me
I began my career in journalism and wrote for several publications. I started out at a local newspaper The Richmond and Twickenham Times and grew my writing and researching skills during this time. After this, I branched out into trade journalism and worked for Brand Republic and Design Week magazines. I became skilful in researching and interviewing many clients for many topics. Writing both news and features for all publications I grew incredibly passionate about my career and went on to become deputy news editor for Design Week. I left full time work to have my children and decided to freelance while carrying out my English degree. I achieved a 2:1 at 69% at degree level. Following this, rather than rush straight into full time teaching I tutored students as well as working as an SEN teaching assistant for 3 years in order to support students in day to day tasks as well as academic work. I assisted SEN students by taking them out into the community and helped them with valuable life and social skills. I also assisted within a classroom environment with academic work. This is where I increased my confidence in the classroom, through interventions, behaviour management and many 1:1 situations. Through observing many teachers' practice I then made the decision to start my training as a secondary English teacher. As a trainee I was very soon tasked with the planning, marking and behaviour management of my groups. This responsibility grew as I took on more classes, making sure I was meeting the teaching standards at all times. At the same time as carrying out my SCITT training I also completed a PGCE. I achieved outstanding teacher status at the end of my training year. During my NQT year I was responsible for teaching English and Media to students of all ages within the secondary school environment as well as a form tutor for a year 7 group. I was fully responsible for planning all lessons, adding to the existing schemes of work, marking and feedback for all year groups up to and including GCSE. As part of my training year, I spent half a term in a school with a sixth form and taught one year 12 group A Level English literature. I was responsible for planning and teaching all lessons, marking, feedback and assessment. I was also responsible for pastoral and behavioural issues during my training year. I have excellent subject knowledge and the ability to teach often complex and abstract ideas in an understandable way. I am a mum of two living in beautiful North Devon and am fully committed and passionate about helping young people reach their full potential through teaching relevant, engaging and creative lessons.
