About Me

Through my studies and work in the industry, I have developed into a thought-provoking and versatile composer. My compositional work during my master’s degree in Music Composition at the University of Surrey was awarded an Ableton Live prize for the unsurpassed compositional work at level 7. I also composed my first album, Evolution, consisting of 5 pieces that embody the musical evolution I experienced throughout both of my degrees and special experiences travelling across Europe.

I began my career as an electronic dance music producer and composer, releasing club ready pieces through various independent record labels, most notably Simma Black. My music has progressed to more ambient and alternative electronic musical styles, fused with influences from Avant-pop and EDM. This evolution has coincided with my experimentation in live digital improvisation practices, from playing instruments in unconventional ways to live electronic performances using Ableton Live and controllers. One of my aims is to compose pieces that have the capabilities to be performed and reworked live. As well, I hope to utilise concepts, visuals and video as the inspiration and direction for my future compositional work.

As well as my extensive work in composition, I have built vast experience as a DJ, performing at various clubs in London, Guildford and Bristol. I had a monthly residency at Pacha, London, alongside a residency at the University of Surrey’s student union club, The Livingroom as part of the Dance Music Society. Similarly, I have DJ’d at birthday parties of all ages, special events and conferences.

I took up the piano early on in my development, continuing through to my teenage years. At this stage, I discovered music software that allowed me to compose, record, mix and export compositions. Hours of investigating and studying enabled me to undertake a Music and Sound Production BTEC course at college. After achieving distinction, I was accepted at University to study Creative Music Technology at undergraduate level. Once graduating, I spent a year freelancing, honing my compositional skills and building the foundations for a new musical direction. As a result, I then believed I was ready to take a master’s degree in Music Composition, graduating in 2018 with Distinction.

I am currently learning the guitar, I hope this can add a new dynamic to my music in the future. I wish to release some new pieces throughout 2019, while offering my expert knowledge and experiences with young, budding composer’s, producer’s and DJ’s through private tutoring and informative online articles. Together with other services available, such as stem mixing and music production consultation.

My Qualifications/Achievements:
Music Theory Level 5 (ABRSM)
Ableton Live Prize at Level 7 – Digital Composition
Ableton Live & Logic Pro X expert knowledge
MMus in Music (Composition) – Distinction
Full Enhanced DBS Checked
Full UK Driving License

Education

Masters in Music Composition - University of Surrey (Distinction)
BHons Undergraduate in Creative Music Technology - University of Surrey (2:1)
BTEC in Music & Sound Production - East Surrey College (Distinction)

Experience / Qualifications

My experience in teaching includes, guest lecturing, presentations and private one to one teaching. Since completing my master's degree, I have performed a number of guest lectures at the University of Surrey, exploring various processes and techniques I have developed for live digital improvisation and composition. I have also given presentations and seminars, exploring the research I have conducted into the basics of generative music systems, my music processes and compositional techniques.

I have taught children from the age of 5 upwards, currently with a number of one-to-one sessions and small group lessons. I enjoy teaching students of all ages and abilities, taking pride in seeing their progress and them reaching their goals.

I am also a WEA (Workers’ Educational Association) tutor running various courses for adult learners across the Surrey area.

I am fully enhanced DBS certified.

SONGWRITING course with intensive and result-oriented methods
English Translation: contact me please Everybody generally consists of chord progressions and text lines. But where does that information come from and how do you make something out of nothing? How do you make that one great hit or how strongly does your new song affect your love? Well, that's called "inspiration processing" and how does that work? Well, I'll tell you that in my course. If you play 'what' guitar or piano, then you are one step ahead. Your instrument is like a trampoline that offers you more options to go further and higher. Most 'songs' are born at the craziest moments. A good songwriter his / her antenna 's are always open :-) and for some it's a continuous activity. During my course I teach you through all sorts of tips and tricks (including: Travel Chord Duo Method - One Four Five and 2 sixes lines - Key Word Designation and Relative Chord Progressions etc.) how you can get strong songs. For me it is a daily activity and I have been writing all my life for others and sometimes for myself. All in all, I have sold more than a million copies worldwide as an author / composer / performer. Is that little or is that a lot? I do not know. It doesn't interest me that much anymore. I want to write my science about songs, share it with motivated people who want to go further than just replaying others' songs. Whether they get stuck somewhere during composing and who are not afraid to seek advice. Music is a life flirt. There are only two types of music: good and bad ... Do you have a foundation of chords, do you want to know how to make a good song .....? Just book with me for an hour. Then you also know who I am and where I hide :-) Not satisfied after the first 'lesson'? Money Back. Danny

Guitar / Bass / Ukulele / Theory - LOUKELELE MUSIC ACADEMY -
REGISTRATIONS AUGUST 2019 OPEN !!! The course I propose is BILINGUAL FRENCH / ENGLISH, with a program adaptable to your desires / needs with the COURSE BOOK that I wrote and produced especially for my students. Age is therefore not restrictive when you will be able to work with qualitative (and not quantitative) daily work in order to quickly observe your progress and not sink into the frustration of a quest towards an absolute that seems vain and time-consuming. Here the pleasure of playing music is put forward. This is of course accompanied by the pleasure of learning more in theory and being able to directly apply new knowledge on his instrument and identify its common or rare use in the pieces discussed in class. Music theory is popularized to be accessible to anyone, both for those who are connoisseurs and for those who discover everything from absolute zero. The exercises, songs and theoretical explanations offered throughout the program are therefore in an order of progressive difficulty. I wrote and produced 2 books of my method to learn the guitar and the music, that I sell to accompany my course and your apprenticeship in the best conditions and so that you can continue the course even at home and to review etc ... . There is ONE BOOK OF COURSES containing all the theoretical and practical program of the year, as well as a BOOK OF EXERCISE on the scales and modes that you can buy directly at home. The kind of music you love most will be the focus of the course, although I am particularly oriented in terms of metal / rock music and classical music in my style of play, I am a versatile ear and who appreciates a lot of very different (even contradictory) things. The writing of music and music theory are also two areas in which I am in my element and which allow me to travel transversally in music genres as different and varied as they are and to understand them, to learn them and therefore to retransmit their codes and secrets. You can play a guitar that I made available for the course, and you can also bring your own if you prefer. For bondage lovers the course can be given for 7-string / 8-string guitars. To finish I would like to add more personal that I am professional, dedicated to my profession of musician and teacher, I am always available to answer via message, mails, short videos or even for the following course, to students who contact me outside of class for a reminder or advice on a concept discussed in theory or a difficulty encountered in a piece :) /! \ CANCELLATIONS-REFUNDS-CONDITIONS /! \ For parents who want to put their children to music to occupy them: I advise you to make sure that the motivation comes from your child in the first place! I happened to be confronted with children who did not really want to take these courses and so I had to stop because lack of motivation of the child and boredom very visible! If for any reason whatsoever (on my side or yours) the classes are no longer given while you have paid for several lessons in advance, THE DIFFERENCE WILL BE REIMBURSED BY APPRENTUS, who stores the money and tells me pay per course (which you confirm). So no worries on that side! If we do not finish all the courses you ordered, the non-courses will be reimbursed BY THE SITE! Thank you for your reading and your interest if you have read so far. You can find here an indicative list of objectives that I propose in my program, which can adapt of course to your request. The general objectives of the course: --- Tuning / tuning and knowing his guitar: * Standard Tuning * Drop Tuning * Open Tuning * Adjust the optimal tension of the strings * Adjust the shaft axis * Adjust the action of the strings * Choose the strings adapted to the style of play / tuning * Change his strings --- Understand / Modulate / Choose the Sounds of an Amp / Effect Pedal: *Volume * Gain (Low / High) * Treble * Middle * Bass *Presence * Delay * Reverb *Chorus * NoiseSuppressor / NoiseGate * Wah * Octaver * Harmonizer * Etc ... -Know his chords: --- Know his scales and his modes * The Major Mode (7notes) * 3 Minor Modes (7 notes): Natural / Melodic / Harmonic * 2 Pentatonic Modes (5notes): Major / Minor * Blues Mode (6 notes): Minor Pentatonic + The "Blue Note" * 2 Modes of Triads (3notes): Major / Minor * 2 Triad Modes Seventh (4notes): Shift + 7th / Min + 7th * Phrygian and Phrygian Dominant Mode * Hungarian Fashion Etc ... --- Technique to the Pick / Plectrum / Tab / Pick (Electric Guitar): * Alternate Picking * Fast Picking / Tremolo Picking * Hybrid Picking * Palm Mute * Natural Harmonics * Pinch Harmonics * Artificial Harmonics * Shredding * Tapping * Sweep Picking * Legato Picking --- Strumming / Hand Picking (Acoustic Guitar) * "SnareDrum" percussion on the guitar * Arpeggios pinched with 4 fingers + thumb * Rasgueado (Flamenco Technique) * Generic Strumming * Fingerstyle Picking * Two-finger picking + Legato for fast melodies (eg a solo) -Play the metronome -Learn his favorite songs -Improvize solos - Understand and know the music theory -Theory of Harmony -Theory on the Melody -Theory of Rhythm

I am a professional, touring and performing guitarist and experienced guitar teacher from a family of folk musicians in Scotland. I've been playing the guitar for 15 years and mostly specializing in folk and indie (including fingerstyle guitar) and blues (inspired by Hendrix and Led Zeppelin), both electric and acoustic guitar. I teach children and adults, all abilities from absolute beginners to advanced players, folk, blues, rock and fingerstyle. I like to teach students through a mixture of learning by ear and learning from music, as in my experience this produces the best and most adaptable players! Lessons are charged at € 15/45 minutes and I can travel to you. Lessons can be either electric or acoustic, but I recommend acoustic for absolute beginners at first.

Alec
Drum Teacher available for technical and motivational lessons online
If you want to know not just about drum techniques and playing, but also about its history and musicianship, you'll definitely have a unique experience with my lessons. I believe drumming is not just about playing and knowing your chops, but also about being able to listen to others in the band and make sure you "be" part of the music, without resorting to thrashing around and proving to others what kind of noise you can make. Hence the phrase "A band should be as good as its drummer". :) Drumming is undoubtedly a way of building up your self-confidence, in order to establish your identity. The drums are a great use to channel your emotions, so long as you don't have to pull a Keith Moon. ;) I can also add keyboards to the mix.... But why is it relevant for a drummer, you may ask? Well, although it may look the contrary from the outside, having an ear for other instruments and chords is absolutely essential, because both your drumming nd ability to improvise contributes to the atmosphere of each song. If you want to know more, do please get in touch. I look forward to rocking out with you! :)

Learn electroacoustic composition - sound creation and sound techniques
Who is this workshop for? For all curious about sound, all music, music in general, who wants to manufacture, build, examine ... (from 12 or 13 years). Should one know the music theory? Not necessarily. But familiarity with music of various styles can be a great help. DJ? Electro music? No ! We will not learn here to be a DJ or to compose "dance-music", "electro" music in the commonly understood sense, or even songs. Should I know the computer? It's better if that's the case, but learning can be done at the same time as music research. Is it necessary to have a computer? Yes ! A "workshop" rather than a class? The course takes the form of a practical workshop, listening sessions, critical works. By computer? Everything happens on computer once recorded sound elements of all kinds. Editing, transformation, mixing on software designed for this. No software required. The proposed route can be adapted to any multitrack sequencing software. The computer is only a tool, it is the composer who makes the music. Practically what do we do? The composer works "with the sounds" that he has most often recorded himself. He chooses them, assembles them, deforms them, mixes them according to his project, according to his his intuition, his ideas and desires, gradually builds a music. For those who want it and need it, exercises are proposed which allow to approach at the same time techniques of realization and specific musical proposals. Composition / Invention It is not a question of declaring oneself all composers, but of asserting that one can all ask questions of composers, with, at the same time, seriousness and fantasy. To confront the game of a free invention. What musical orientation? What style ? This is a "musical research" approach: to seek to invent a music beyond the traditional values - heights of note, regular pulsations, instrumental timbres - without being forbidden to do all that. A "music of sounds", in the widest possible sense, a "music of all sounds "as opposed to what we might call obviously too simplified" a music of notes ". This choice, which apparently seems to shake up the musical uses, is nevertheless part of a tradition of more than a century and rich of a repertoire too little known and which had various names: - Electroacoustic Music - Concrete music - Acousmatic music - Contemporary music Finally, we each have a precious tool to never forget: our ear, and a fascinating and rewarding work to drive, questioning oneself.

Piano, Harpsichord, Musical Expression lessons! Come, try and have fun learning
Hello, I'm Catarina, I come from Portugal and I have about seven years of experience in teaching Piano, Harpsichord, musical expression, music theory and reading music. I usually set the goals for the academic year with the student, usually divided by quarter, and it's always possible to adjust them, according to the student's expectations, difficulties and needs. For now, I can't speak Dutch but that's about to change, since I'm already learning it! You can learn in Portuguese, of course, in English, Spanish and French (I also have experience teaching foreign students). Hope to hear from you. Met vriendelijke groet :) Catarina
