My name is Federico and I am a professional and Award Winning saxophone player. I worked at Koninklijk Conservatorium of Bruxelles as an Assistant Professor of Jeroen Van Herzeele the jazz saxophone professor. I graduated at Conservatorio G.Martucci of Salerno (Italy) and had both Bachelor and Master with full marks with honors. During the course of my studies i also spent two academic years abroad , one at the Kask and Conservatorium of Ghent with the supervision of Bart Defoort and one at the Koninklijk Conservatorium of Bruxelles with John Ruocco. In 2017 i won the "Massimo Urbani International Jazz Competition" prize that saw as head of the jury Kurt Rosenwinkel & Fabrizio Bosso. I play in several Jazz bands and I have been performing all around Europe. I recorded a solo album called "Right Now" with the famous Italian label "Philology Records" & the album"Supernova" with my own band. I also recorded several albums with different bands and of many styles, from jazz, funk to pop. I toured with the famous Italian Drummer Tullio De Piscopo (Pino Daniele, Mina, Astor Piazzolla's drummer) and also had the chance to make a variety of television appearances on Italian National Television (Rai1, Rai5, Rai3). I myself had amazing and terrible music teachers during my learning process and believe me, I know what a difference makes... To really enjoy learning music or just to feel a ‘must study’, is the difference between ‘...I have to’ or ‘I want to!’. I finished a Bachelor and a Master's degree in the Music Conservatory (The Hague) and then spent five years in the jazz scene in New York City, which gave me a very wide experience. Whether you are a beginner or preparing to enter a Music Conservatory, I can help you. Classes description: I have different study books we can use depending on the level, Wastall, Klose, Voxman, classic duets, jazz duets, Rubank, Horen, Lezen & Spelen, etc.... Plus I can write for you the songs you want to learn.If you have specific needs of topics to learn I will adapt the lesson and material to it. If what you want is to start or develop further in jazz music and/or improvisation, I’m definitely ready to help you! Beginners: Start finding the sound of the instrument, where the notes are within all those keys, begin with learning how to read music if you don’t read yet, and find easy and fun songs to play to enjoy the instrument already. I can introduce you to the understanding of basic harmony and theory concepts to help understand better inside music that you are playing. Intermediate: We can get to improve the technique of the instrument, reading skills, get more precision, speed, sound and timing and musical expression. Advance the understanding of harmony, its beauty and its possibilities. If you like to work on improvisation we can get to discover how to enjoy improvising with all the technical tools you already learned in the past and enhance that material according to your taste. If you want to start with playing jazz music I can introduce you to first steps and nice and technically comfortable songs to begin with. Advanced: At an advanced level it’s very important to understand the direction you want to take and what you especially want to improve. However I can help you perfectionate sound and timing, rhythm, vibrato, etc..., work on the accuracy of the reading and at the same time make it sound musical and human. On jazz music and/or improvisation, expand the vocabulary for improvising, the knowledge of harmony, what you can do with the material you know from different perspectives, increase precision and sense of direction when phrasing lines, learn more jazz standards, help on original compositions. And of course share all the better understanding of jazz music I learned during my years in New York City.

I suggest you improve your saxophone and music practice by focusing on learning melody by ear and developing improvisation. As for instrumental technique, I can teach you how to place your fingers properly to develop your virtuosity, to have a tonic air column and a good embouchure to develop your sound and to work on articulation to improve your phrasing. All this is acquired little by little by playing specific exercises and solos, pieces or saxophone studies. Through learning the instrument I also suggest you develop your musical qualities which are essential to progress and have fun playing. By learning and memorizing melodies or solos by ear, you develop your ear, your sense of rhythm and your memory. Free improvisation allows you to develop your inner singing and your musical personality. Finally, working with a metronome or directly on recordings will help you improve your rhythmic ear. All this is aimed at allowing the greatest possible freedom with one's instrument as well as the development of a personal aesthetic. I started learning the saxophone at the conservatory 7 years ago. I started with jazz then curiosity pushed me to study classical saxophone for 3 years before specializing in tenor and jazz. I had many saxophone teachers (Eric Barret, Pascal Gaubert, Sylvain Rifflet, Sylvain Cathala...) and today I have a bachelor's degree at the Royal Conservatory with Fabrice Alleman and Manu Hermia. I have played the saxophone in many different contexts, often in jazz in small groups or in a Big Band, in classical solo or in a quartet and also with pop groups on stage or in the studio. I have always loved passing on what I have learned, so I have been teaching beginners/amateurs for 4 years, always with the aim of developing the pleasure of playing and regularity of practice.

Hello, My name is Joris, I'm a saxophonist and conductor. As a saxophonist I obtained a Master degree with great distinction from the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel, won the second prize at the national Lion's European Music Competition and already played as a soloist with orchestras like the Royal Symphonic Band of the Belgian Guides. I'm currently following a Master degree in Music Theory and Conducting at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel. I started conducting when I was 18 and highlights of my career thus far include a selection as one of only 24 candidates for the conducting contest at the World Music Contest Kerkrade last summer. Furthermore I have had the opportunity to work with professional orchestra's like MAV Symphony in Budapest, the North Czech Philharmonic, the President's Own United States Marine Band, the Belgrade Chamber Orchestra amongst others. Musician graduated in jazz saxophone at the KCB (Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel) offers individual lessons for begginers and intermediate level students. Experienced since 2014 in teaching with different age groups, the lesson is adapted to the interests and needs of each student. I'll teach you the basics of playing the saxophone by exploring it as you play. I'll teach you how to read music and learn the corresponding fingerings. We'll also play songs, which can later be adapted to your own requests. We'll do this based on good methods that we'll go through together.

Chris is a New York City-based multi-instrumentalist. A passionate composer and improviser, he has performed as a leader and sideman throughout New York, Boston, Colorado and abroad over the past 15 years. Chris attended the Manhattan School of Music (MM ‘25) and the New England Conservatory of Music (BM ‘23). He has taught privately and within public schools over the past eight years, and loves to help students cultivate their passion for music and instrumental performance. Students can choose to focus entirely on their instrument (saxophone, clarinet, and flute), or can specifically study improvisation, jazz composition, music theory, and ear training. While primarily a jazz musician, Chris is trained in a wide variety of musics including classical, which he diligently studied on the clarinet; popular music and R&B; and world musics, including Brazilian (Choro/Bossa/Samba), Latin-American (Bomba/Timba/Rumba), and West-African styles (Agbekor/Gahu). Some of Chris's many accomplishments include being recognized as a YoungArts Jazz Performance winner for four years in a row; performing abroad in Europe with the inaugural NYO Jazz Band, receiving a Community Performances and Partnerships Ensemble Fellowship at New England Conservatory, and also receiving the George Whitefield Chadwick Medal of musical and academic performance. Chris emphasizes a teaching approach that prioritizes connecting with the student and engaging them in what they’re specifically interested in, while also covering the fundamentals essential to developing ones skills on their instrument or in their field of study. He offers lessons in person, primarily at students's personal residences, and also online via Zoom, Google Meet, or FaceTime (although in person is highly recommended).

Previously, he also completed a MASTER OF INTERPRETATION at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels (2015-2017) in the class of Alain Crepin and Simon Diricq. He studied at the "Musikene" (Higher Conservatory of Music of the Basque Country) with Eric Devallon, Tomás Jérez, Antonio Felipe Belijar and Miguel Ángel Lorente. Passionate about multidisciplinary artistic creation, he thinks of the mixing of all the arts in the same show as an aesthetic goal. This type of research could be observed in his project for his final master's recital in Brussels where he created a project based on Maslow's theory of the hierarchy of human needs where he mixed live, recorded music, dance, light shows and effects under the name: “according to Maslow... ” In terms of his career as a concert artist, he has played in different ensembles (solo performances, duo, trio, quartet, orchestra...) and different countries such as Japan (Artisanal Musical Fair "Suono Italia" 2010), Belgium (Festival Musiq3 2016), Artonov Festival at BOZAR in 2016...), France (Dax chamber music festival 2011) or Spain (Music Festival “Quincena Musical” 2015, Aste Nagusia 2015, Heineken Jazzaldia 2014, Festival Kutxa 2015, Intercentros Melómano 2010).

Any level welcome in this class. Learning songs is the beginning of the adventure, learning to play music with freedom is the lifelong journey. Improvisation does not mean we forget about technique! So, learn some saxophone, some jazz skills, and music theory in a tried-and-tested way developed over my many years of teaching. I am as passionate about improvisation as the saxophone itself, the two go together beautifully. I am Julia, a professional saxophonist originally from Montreal, Canada. I live in the Netherlands for 4 years and have a Master's degree in Music. I compose, engineer and perform music. I also love to teach, I have experiences with ages 9 to 90. The main idea of my teaching philosophy is to get the sound in your head out into the air. "Guided Fearless Music-Making" is my motto!
