Hi, I'm Martha. I teach English and German for speakers of other languages. I have taught in primary schools, after-school clubs and privately to children and adults. I obtained an MA at Goldsmiths University of London and am qualified in Creative ESOL at Trinity, Oxford University. I am also a comedian and actress. I use theatre, engaging activities, visual aids and roleplay to make the learning easier and more fluid. Speaking and listening activities that are fun and enjoyable increase both confidence and the desire to express yourself because there is an urgency to participate. In my lessons I make sure that the curriculum is covered and that the motivation to keep growing is not lost. I look forward to meeting you!

About Me

I am passionate about teaching English, because I myself have learned languages and enjoy being able to speak to people across the world! Besides English, I speak German, Romanian, French and Hebrew. I am certain I can succesfully teach you English, regardless of your level. In my teaching I use interactive activities, theatre and roleplay to increase confidence and to motivate. I prepare the lessons specifically for each student's specific needs, to pass exams and meet the required curriculum at school or at work. Having worked in business I also know how to teach business English for professionals and English for business communication. Do you want to learn Chinese, whether for your child, your studies, your work, a trip, or simply out of curiosity? I offer Mandarin courses adapted for children, teenagers, and adults, from beginner to intermediate level!

Currently in my final year of a Master's degree in Chinese studies, I speak four languages (French, Dutch, English and Chinese) and I had the opportunity to live and study for a year in Beijing, at the 外交学院 (China Foreign Affairs University).

My career has also been marked by several participations in the Chinese Bridge Competition, a major international Chinese language competition. I twice achieved second place in the Belgian final and then participated in the storytelling event (故事会), where I reached the Top 50 worldwide.

My method is based on a structured progression inspired in particular by the HSK, while being adapted to the objectives and pace of each student. We can work on pronunciation and tones, vocabulary, grammar, characters, listening comprehension as well as oral and written expression.

For children and teenagers, I use an interactive approach with games, stories, pictures, dialogues, and age-appropriate activities. For adults, I can tailor the lessons more to conversation, practical Chinese, everyday situations, travel, studies, or a professional context.
