About Me

Hello,
I'm Anna from Italy and I live abroad since 2016. I'm currently placed in Edinburgh and I teach basic, intermediate and advanced italian online for children and adults. I have a degree in Education and I work with children of any age and people for 10 years.
When I work, I usually introduced myself first, then start with basic questions to understand your level of italian.
When the lesson starts, I help you to learn new words and teach you how to place them in sentences.
I use pictures and funny way to help you learning a concept if needed.
I also like to teach something about my culture, so if you'd like I can also introduce you italian concepts and a bit about myself and my country.
During the lesson, I will repeat as many times as you want and I will give homework after every lesson but this is your choice.
I found easier and faster for learners to improve the language if they have some homework to do after every lesson.

While studying Social Anthropology and Politics, I would like to exploit my love for languages as well as my inner desire of bringing with me a piece of my cultural background. Teaching is a mutual exchange in which everyone can enlarge his points of view. My lessons are shaped according to needs and goals students want to meet. I think everyone has his own better way of learning and peculiar strengths and weaknesses, and it is important to know these ones in order to succeed.
I adopt an innovative approach, which involves speaking, listening and studying with interactive media. My purpose is to work on the four parts of the language (Speaking, Writing, Listening and Reading). I carefully select the material I use.
I want my lessons to be stimulating and consider them to be a moment of mutual growth. I like my students to be enthusiastic of learning and always ready to be challenged.
I have studied Latin language and literature, Italian, Ancient Greek, philosophy (etcetera) for 5 years and I have been teaching for three years. Thanks to private tutoring, I have developed a profound empathy (it is important to recognise needs and skills of students since I tailor my classes according to their attitudes and levels) as well as effective methods to overcome difficulties learners would eventually meet.
I'm very dynamic so I do not want standard classes in which students simply receive notions, but a stimulating environment where everyone can learn by getting into Italian culture as well as making comparisons and discussing about different topics.

I'm offering Italian lessons for all levels (beginner, intermediate and advance ). I'm covering grammar, reading, writing and literature too. Italian is my second language as I've spent 5 years in Florence as a kid. Falling in love with Italian language and culture I've decided to study it. I have a Bachelor's degree from Italian language & literature and enjoy giving my knowledge to others. I can travel to your home also. I speak English fluently and can help with your English too as I've attended English lessons since I was six.

The class is intended for people who wish to know more about italian language and culture. Classes are structured on italian conversations and/or italian history and culture (food, modern history, cinema..). Requests from students will be added to the classes if possible :)

My teaching method consists to speak only in Italian, with children and with adults, because in my opinion this is the best way to learn a foreign language.
The teaching method that I use with children consists in making them learn Italian through play, singing songs, reading stories and always talking to them in Italian so that they can learn new words everyday.
The method that I use with adults consists in making sure that they learn Italian by always speaking in Italian, have conversation in Italian, study grammar, do written excercises, listening excercises.
I will start from the basic level and then go a higher level.

I’m a mother-tongue speaker in English and Italian and I have achieved a B2 in the Spanish DELE qualifications. I am also an experienced language tutor, having taught students of all ages and level over the course of the past five years.

When explaining a new topic, I like to encourage students to use their insight, nudging them when necessary. I have observed how even absolute beginners can easily guess the meaning of a new word or the way a certain word will behave, once certain patterns between and within Italian and English (and possibly other languages) are highlighted. When a student reaches the correct conclusion with just a little help, that is highly rewarding for both the student and the teacher!

For more advanced students, the focus is often on vocabulary, pronunciation and grammar nuances. I like to choose a topic together and subsequently bring a written text (like a newspaper article), from which to extract more specialised vocabulary, and which will serve as a basis for discussions and debates.
