Improve your English (the fun way!) with a New Yorker
From 22.33 £ /h
Hello! I'm so glad you found my class. If you are looking for a casual and fun way to improve your English you have come to the right place!
I've learned that students absorb material the best when they are relaxed, having fun and in real world environments, so I do my best to incorporate those elements in all of my classes.
A typical class involves us taking a stroll down a new neighborhood and chatting casually. Topics range with the student's fluency level, but typically include any of the below:
-- the weather
-- interesting things we pass by on our walk
-- our career aspirations
-- our travel plans or memories
-- favorite television shows
-- intriguing current events and news articles
On the first day I ask that my students bring their language goals written down on a piece of paper. Every class you are also welcome to bring particular questions you have about pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary and overall colloquialisms.
I look forward to having you in my class! I am also offering webcam based lessons through October 2020 as I am not in town currently.
Ciao,
Taylor

About Me
Hello Apprentus community! I'm so excited to share my love of languages with you all, and I'm grateful for your eager and receptive attitudes!
I keep my classes casual because I've found that students absorb and retain more information when they are having fun and relaxed. Whenever possible I combine a fun activity -- adjusted for the student's age, preferences, and fluency level -- with learning!
When we do in person lessons this means combining a fun walk around a neighborhood learning English in real world scenarios, like ordering a coffee, asking for directions, people watching, describing an interesting building and the weather, as well as talking about your emotions and the current events of the world.
When I conduct webcam or online lessons this usually means basing lessons around a favorite topic or tv show of the student. For example we could watch a 10 minute scene from Gossip Girl with english subtitles on and discuss the scene, the characters, their motivations, dilemmas, and outfits, as well as where they are in New York City.
If students are younger then I incorporate hands on play. We'll finger paint with different colors to learn the colors, we'll play with different shaped objects, and go through picture books in English. We'll play dancing games identifying the parts of our body like "Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes" and sing the ABC's.
At the beginning of my courses I like to have the students write down their language goals, as well as a written commitment to me and themselves to practice each week. I also encourage students to come to class with one question about the english language!
Looking forward to getting to know you and celebrating the diversity and ingenuity of humans via language!
