Saxophone, clarinet and flute lessons; music theory and GCSE/ A-Level tuition.
From 42 £ /h
In addition to my busy playing career, I offer individual lessons on Saxophone, Clarinet and Flute, and in Music Theory in North Essex, East Hertfordshire, East London or online. I am also able to offer tutoring for GCSE and A-level Music and Music Technology courses for individuals or small groups.
My fundamental belief with regard to music education is that it should be a fun, enjoyable and rewarding experience. With this aim in mind, I strive to develop an approach tailored towards each student, taking account of their experience level, their personal musical goals and their own musical interests and tastes. I am equally at home teaching Jazz, Pop, Soul or the ever-expanding repertoire of classical saxophone music.
I have a wealth of experience in music education, teaching adults and young people in a wide variety of settings and contexts. In addition to having been an instrumental tutor since 1999: I have a Post Graduate Certificate in Education and have spent several years as a head of music in state secondary schools and at a 6th Form College; have taught and examined A-level courses in Music and Music Technology; have directed various ensembles within educational establishments and have devised and delivered workshops with a focus upon jazz and improvisation.
My students have a 100% pass rate in their ABRSM practical and theory exams, with many attaining Merit and Distinction passes (including at grade 8).
I have an advanced CRB check and am happy to provide testimonials upon request.

About Me
Born in East London, Glen began playing the saxophone at the age of 12, later adding further woodwind instruments to his arsenal, in addition to guitar, bass and various tuned and untuned percussion.
Glen's saxophone studies immediately led him in the direction of the jazz greats such as Charlie Parker, Sonny Rollins and John Coltrane, amongst others, but his studies under Lyn Dobson (Nick Drake; John Martyn; The Soft Machine etc) deepened his understanding of the instrument's role in rock, folk and various traditional musical styles from around the world, an education which continued at Middlesex University, studying with several luminaries of the British Jazz scene.
Playing professionally since his late teens, Glen has been fortunate enough to work in a wide variety of styles, with many high profile artists, including Rock & Roll with Chubby Checker; Funk with Nik West (Prince; Quincy Jones), Jazz Fusion with Rabih Abou Khalil and various pop acts, to name but a few. This varied playing career has afforded Glen the opportunity to travel extensively, playing at prestigious venues across the U.K and Europe, from Ska in Germany at the Freedom Sounds Festival; a headline slot at the Umbria Jazz Festival; the Lyric Theatre in London's West End, and countless stages large and small everywhere in-between.
Currently working on two successful touring theatre shows, alongside both on location and remote recording sessions, Glen is available for live and studio session work, horn section arrangements and teaching (face-to-face or online).
