I live in Hemel Hempstead and up until Xmas I was Head of maths at The Valley School in Stevenage, and I am a maths tutor specializing in special needs, but I do tutor mainstream students too.

I specialise in tutoring maths for primary mainstream and SEN children.

I use a Maths Mastery Method which begins with using concrete materials to model problems. Next, I represent these materials with pictures and diagrams. Finally, I move to the abstract where numbers and symbols are used to make a number sentence to represent a problem.

I break down concepts into small steps and provide repetition with variety so that students can apply and generalise their knowledge to a range of contexts to gain procedural fluency and a holistic understanding.

I spend significant time developing a strong knowledge of the foundations of maths and key ideas that are needed to underpin future learning. Connections within maths are emphasised so that students develop deep learning. Students are encouraged to look for patterns and relationships, think mathematically and talk about their findings.

In order to reduce the demand on students' memory to free up more space for the learning of new concepts, we also focus on learning to automaticity key facts such as times tables, number bonds and addition facts.

I review progress with children and parents and give advice on practical strategies in order to support learners in the home.

I have experience tutoring Maths from GCSE levels to people with learning difficulties. Maths has always been my favourite subject hence I chose to study Electronics Engineering.

Over the years working in different working environments helped me approach students individually and help them understand and enjoy Maths.

I have been teaching Mathematics privately for over 20 years. I teach online and at a school on Saturdays. I have had a 5-star rating from parents and students in a review. I also have a government certificate (DBS) that a check has been done on me to teach young students. Always my goal is to teach students to get top grades in their exams.

Skills can be developed through honing in on interests and making learning relatable to real-life incorporating games and quizzes to not only improve literacy and numeracy but working, visual and auditory memory skills as well as supporting metacognitive skills (independence and organisation) Focussing on developing skills with high repetition and low stakes testing to increase ability and confidence.
