Teaching English for Children, or as a Second Language

As a Primary School Teacher and graduate from the prestigious Creative Writing MA at the University of East Anglia, as well as a native British speaker with a First in English (BA) to my name, I can help your child develop his or her English language skills (in the spoken or written form) in a variety of ways.

First of all, my lessons are always tailored individually to my students, and as such, will always focus on what your child'd educational needs. Therefore, we may concentrate on writing in some lessons, speaking in others, or whatever it is we decide together that your child could benefit from working on.

I am a friendly, warm, approachable, highly empathetic and passionate teacher, with an absolute love of learning, huge levels of experience in the field (six years working in Reception, Year 1 and 2 classrooms) and a desire to promote social change through education. If my lessons sound like something your child might be interested in, and if your child would like to advance his or her skills in both the written and spoken English, please feel free to get in contact, and we can go from there!

Thank you,
James

Ilia
(I)GCSE English Literature / IB English Literature
Having difficulties analysing poems and prose in your (I) GCSE / IB English Literature course? Looking to amp your essays up a notch and finally get that A/A* or 6/7 that you have been dreaming of? I am here to help. The first thing to remember: though analysing works of literature isn't always fun, everybody can master the techniques of how to do it. But learning takes time, which the school teacher may often lack. Indeed, it has been my own experience that English teachers often choose width over depth, and so discussions are cut short for the sake of covering all elements of the teaching programme, leaving many interesting aspects of a particular work unexplored. Or sometimes it's just the attention that wanders off as the teacher is explaining these pesky concepts of "writer's voice", "writer's tone", "meter", "rhymescheme" and so on. Let me assure you: that, too, happens even to the best of us. What I can offer you is exactly what a teacher normally does not time for: exploring a work of literature in as much detail (both analytical and technical) as it takes to push the quality of your essays up to the desired level. My approach is informed by IB / (I)GSCE Eng Lit course guidelines to make sure that the quality of your answer would be developed in accordance with what examiners want to see. Armed with a deep passion for literature on the one hand (reading and writing poems and short stories are one of my favorite things to do) and knowledge of ways of critical analysis (obtained in IB English Lit and reinforced by philosophy courses on university level) which are of tremendous importance in literary analysis as well, I will show you how to deconstruct any piece, how to place it in its cultural context, and make educated guesses about the links between cultural context and the author's choice of stylistical devices. And best of all - unlike in the classroom, the learning experience is tailored to you (based on your way of learning / remembering) and delivered in a highly interactive way! The skills described above, coupled with general essay writing tips will lend authority and style to your summative essays and exam answers, boosting your academic confidence. Ready to leave unsatisfactory essays in the past? Then contact me today!

French and English lessons for all levels + preparation for the GCSE
As a recent graduate from a Master degree in teaching English, with 5 years of experience tutoring French children and students privately. During my two years of master, I taught English to secondary school students. The theory and the practise, allowed me to develop my teaching skills and through tutoring I have learned to tailor my teaching methods to the student’s needs. Moreover, throughout my years of tutoring, I could gave back the confidence that students were lacking in their education, which led to one of my students to obtain her “brevet” equivalent of the English GSCE with a high grade. The success was hinged through the learning material that I created. Indeed, I produced my own lesson plans and I provided weekly progress homework.

Private lessons in History-Geo, SES and English
I have always loved exchanging and passing on what I have learned. My mother being a German teacher, I have always been immersed in the world of education. I started tutoring when I was in high school, and I still do today. My journey : - Mention Very Good at the ES baccalaureate - Studied Sociology and Political Science at the University of Geneva - History and Spanish studies at the London School of Economics (LSE), First Class Honours. I help academically and psychologically students in History-Geography, SES and English. I explain the course in detail (if necessary), and we work on the methodology for each event, the organization and the planning of the work to be done. I can also follow your child in other subjects for the smallest classes. For example, I worked with two students in great difficulty (general average around 7-8 out of 20), and the latter obtained their baccalaureate, one of them with honors. I also worked with another student the previous year, who obtained the mention Very Good (with 19/20 in SES).

Excel in English - A Class for everyone trying to learn english
Living in England could really be complicated if you are bad at english. The key to improvising yourself and socialising with others is communication. From job interviews to casual chats, english is an unavoidable requirement in all our day today life. Communication skill is always the best way to impress someone and also to get involved with them. This course will lift you from whichever state you are in english and improve your linguistic skills to a western level. My experience in teaching IELTS sessions to students of different age groups (most of them elder than me), has helped me take my classes in appropriate ways for the particular age group present in my class. When it comes to one on one classes, it would be a more easy and interactive session, which helps in improving the student’s linguistic skills to a whole new level.
