About Me

Concert guitarist with more than 20 years of experience in training students. "One of the most active Mexican classical guitarists of her generation"

Graduated from the Superior School of Music of the National Institute of Fine Arts (Mexico, Mexico) and also from Lemmensinstituut (Belgium, Leuven), she obtained a master´s degree in musical interpretation at the Royal Conservatory of Mons (Belgium, Mons) and the AESS (Agrégation de l´Enseignement Secondaire Supérieur) at IMEP (Namur).

Madame is very active in the musical world, she has participated in many concerts and festivals in the United States, Belgium, Sweden, England, Spain, Ecuador, Peru and also Mexico.

On the other hand, she produced a solo guitar album entitled ENCORE; released in 2017.

In addition to her music career, she has 15 years of experience teaching guitar. María José was, among others, an assistant professor and a teacher. She has also worked in several academies in Belgium.

She lives in Mons with her husband Daniel and her two cats. María José speaks several languages, including Spanish, French, English and a little Dutch.

Guitar teacher for many years, I am passionate about jazz, blues, folk and fingerpicking.
My classes cover the basics of these different styles in a relaxed manner. Smoothly stringing together chords, exploring different rhythms, correctly placing a melody, trying improvisation (jazz, blues, rock), and developing finger playing techniques (classical or folk) are all central elements of the learning process. These are eventually deepened by notions of music theory and/or music theory.
