About Me

This was my first ever drum lesson and Olie got me playing along to a song within 10 minutes. Later learning a simple groove and generally playing on a kit with some ease, considering it was my first time. Patient and easy to get along with, I really enjoyed my lesson. Cheers Olie!

20th December, 2019

Olie is fantastic - he understands what my son likes and what he needs to challenge him. He also suggests a range of things for practise between sessions. My son likes him and is always inspired and enthusiastic after lessons with Olie.

16th November, 2019

Olie is a fantastic tutor - he is very good at knowing when to challenge my son while encouraging him, and he engages with his interests and suggests pieces to engage with them, while also widening his understanding and repertoire.
I can't recommend him highly enough.

16th November, 2019

Olie is an excellent tutor. He tailored my lessons to the music style I like and introduced me to different types of drumming. Would definitely recommend!

Education

Grew up in musical family, lots of Blues, Rock, Folk music played. Collectively we have our own band, Guitar, Bass, Piano, Vocals. Childhood artists, Tom Petty, Steve Winwood, Eric Clapton, ACDC, Antonio Venditti, Robbie Robertson etc. Enormous CD and Vinyl collection in house, huge speakers, music magazines, Songlines, MOJO, Classic Rock.
Studied privately for 10 years achieving 2 grade 8s, then University, achieving a 2:1. Reading, studying great drummers and classic songs was how I was taught. Steve Gadd, Bernard Purdie, John Bonham, Dave Weckl, Jeff Porcaro, Jack White, Dave Grohl, Nicko Mcbrain. Reading big band charts and studying latin grooves was the peak of my playing before university. At Uni, my styles broadened into Neo Soul, Reggae, Funk, Heavy Metal, Prog Rock, Latin Salsa, Dixieland, Be Bop, New Orleans, you name it! Recording in these styles and playing extensively around London gave me a taste of a working musicians lifestyle. Studying with great players, Dave O Higgins, Sid Gauld (Incognito), Roberto Pla (Roberto Pla’s Salsa Orchestra), Graham Harvey (Stacey Kent), Richard Brook (Gary Barlow, ABC), Pete Cater (Pete Cater Big Band, Tony Kofi) was truly inspirational and was great for networking. All these skills and contacts have helped me become a professional musician since graduating.

Experience / Qualifications

BMus in Performance & Production from London Centre of Contemporary Music - 2:1
Grade 8 Distinctions Rockschool & Trinity.
Grade 5 Theory.
Drum teacher: Jazz, Latin, Funk, Rock, Orchestral *Teaching Skype lessons at a reduced rate!* *Lots of availability anytime as of April 2020!* *Teaching peripatetic drums and percussion in two schools in Knightsbridge and Hackney* I have a 2:1 Bmus in Performance & Production from LCCM. The skills I have learned from my degree are as follows: -I am a competent reader, able to sight-read music for musical theatre, jazz, and Latin arrangements -I have an in-depth knowledge of a wide range of styles: Jazz, Latin, Funk, Orchestral, Rock, German oompah music! -I gig regularly, in all of the styles above, I am often called at short notice to dep gigs when the main drummer can't make it. -My ears have improved greatly by going to jazz jams, attending lots of gigs, seeing how the pros do it! -My university was more like an academy, meaning it was 95% practical, in my final year I was in every day 9 am-9 pm, rehearsing or doing individual practice, the improvement in my playing would not have been equaled had I done a more academic degree. -My ability to work in a team and just communicate with other people has greatly improved. In my final year, I was asked by a lot of my peers to play for their recitals, I was overwhelmed with work but managed to pull through, and as a result, I have created a good reputation for myself and a long list of musical contacts, something very valuable. -I have grade 5 music theory, putting it to practical use by writing music for string quartet, jazz combos, and salsa bands. I have also created backing tracks for my own original music. -Using electronic sounds within a normal acoustic set-up is something I do regularly now. I often have a metronome in my ears on live gigs and have to play specific electronic sounds in time through a Roland SPD-SX, this gives me the ability to replicate specific sounds from studio versions of tracks. I come from a family where music is extremely important. At school, my first band was a rock covers band where my brother played bass. We played regularly in pubs in Dorset, (you may have heard of the Teddy Rocks festival, we played in the very first festival and have played with my band Last Resort ever since). My first teacher was keen for me to learn how to read music, meaning I could play in school orchestras for musicals. I have 2 Grade 8 distinctions, one from Rockschool and one from Trinity Guildhall, I did the Rockschool one first and then thought it best to add the Trinity one! The rock band I was in still plays, we have an EP online and continue to write original music. Having just finished uni, I am keen to start my musical career ASAP, I want to stay in London because it has the best music scene in Europe!! My teaching has reading and listening to its heart. The best thing I have done since coming to London is open my ears to all the styles I didn't like, listen over and over, until they started to grow on me! Music is a cultural and historical lesson as well, it's interesting to see where the popular styles of today came from! Reading will just make you more employable as all the sessions, musical theatre and holiday camp drummers will tell you! I use software such as Noteflight which allows me to playback scores, making sight-reading an easier and more enjoyable process, and meaning I can share scores with students via email. Each student is also given a video recording of what we studied in the lesson, which is a very valuable resource, something they can take away from each lesson, and makes remembering what we learned much easier! I look forward to answering any queries you may have and hope to teach you very soon!

All-styles drumming, percussion and music theory lessons
I've been a drummer for almost 20 years now, and I've graduated from both Brussels Royal Conservatory of Music (classical percussion) and Mons Royal Conservatory of Music (pedagogy). I've been teaching percussion, the drums and music theory for a little more than 4 years now. My students are always the real actors of my courses. No matter what instrument you are learning, be it percussion, the drums, marimba, vibraphone, or music theory, I always pay close attention to your personal goals, and together we devise a unique learning plan that adapts to your strengths as well as your weaknesses. My courses are aimed at anyone who is willing to put effort into learning music; children or adults, complete beginners or more advanced players who wish to receive additional feedback and insight. Autonomy, creativity, curiosity and listening skills are the true pillars of my methodology. We pay as much attention to technique as to musicality or listening skills. Additionally, I provide tailored exercises, on-demand sheet music and transcriptions according to your needs, as well as additional resources and recommendations on my website to nourish your musical life and journey. I teach the following: -the drums, in various styles (rock, funk, jazz, shuffle, pop, world music, latin music, on-demand songs) and forms (Moeller technique, speed, rudiments, syncopation, breaks, solo, independence, musicality, double pedal, push-pull, etc.); -percussion (2 or 4-mallet marimba and vibraphone, xylophone, timpani, cajón, hand percussion), in both contemporary and classical music styles; -music theory, which can and will easily be integrated into my drumming or percussion courses, or can be taught as a separate course for music students who are seeking remedial education; -harmony; -sight reading techniques; -perfect and relative pitch (experimental)

Drum lessons (pop, rock, metal, electro) all levels
Thank you for visiting my profile :) Whether you know how to read music or not, I'll teach you the drums using a progressive method that lets you know exactly what to practice and when, in a motivating way. This will allow you to optimize your practice time and progress quickly. Whether it's to learn great classics of different styles: - rock: ACDC, Led Zeppelin, Red Hot Chili Peppers... - metal: Metallica, Slipknot, Gojira... - pop: Michael Jackson, Bruno Mars, Adele... To other styles (funk, electro) or even composing your own pieces. In addition to teaching, I perform a lot with my band Macrowave, so I can help you prepare for the stage as well. A graduate with honors from the Music Academy International, I have been teaching drums for over 10 years with a clear, progressive teaching approach adapted to each student, whatever their level (from complete beginner to advanced drummer). Through my site Batteur Sans Limite, I had the opportunity to share tutorials, online courses and interviews with renowned drummers from the French scene (Mario Duplantier – Gojira, Loïc Maurin – M83, Jérôme Castry – Alpha Blondy...). My goal: to provide concrete and inspiring tools to help you progress in the styles you love. I have also created many educational videos: if you want to learn how to film yourself or produce musical content, I can help you choose and use the equipment. Experience: more than 20 years of drum practice, and 10 years of teaching Sponsors: Mystic Cymbals, RLRRLRLL clothing, Roc'N Soc seats Bands: Macrowave and Blurry Eyes

Beatbox - I teach you how to create rhythms and sounds, using only your voice and mouth as instruments!
Beatboxing is a relatively unknown discipline, even though it allows for an absolutely incredible musical variety: percussion, whistles, bass, special sounds straight out of an alien movie... our body is an instrument in itself, and learning beatbox is accessible to everyone! (Take a look at some beatboxer videos online, you'll be amazed!) I'll take you step by step, starting with easy and useful sounds, gradually moving towards impressive, fun sounds, or those of your choice. In addition, I practice with you and complete your knowledge of music theory and particularly rhythm when necessary. Don't hesitate to contact me to find out more about me, my methods, or beatboxing, see you soon! ;)

Drums lessons in FR-IT-EN with an experienced and qualified teacher
Je donne cours en français - Description disponible en Français Do lezione in Italiano - Descrizione disponibile in Italiano ......................................................................................................................................................... The course method, inspired by the Agostini school (French method used in French and Belgian academies and conservatories) is divided between technique and drums. At the rate of one session each we will focus once on technique and movements outside the drums (on pads) and the other time on the drums and the application of technique and movements. -> The technique lessons and the movements will be those of the so-called 'Moeller technique' that I learned through his direct lineage of student. -> The drum lessons are greatly inspired by the pedagogy of the M.A.I. (Music Academy International - Nancy (fr)) and in particular that of Richard-Paul Morellini, renowned instructor. The courses are complete, in-depth but above all specifically thought of to be progressive. They are suitable for children from 7 years old as well as adults of all ages. => Particular attention is paid to the movements and their correct application, to the total independence of the limbs and finally to an understanding of the rhythm and its theory. My main goal is to give the student complete control behind the drums and skills to be able to self-learn any piece in any musical style. 1 hour of weekly lessons are never enough, they should only be used to fuel the passion that will make you play at home more and more. On demand or for advancs students: - I am very passionate about the study of South American rhythms. Due to their complexity, apart from the samba and Baïon ostinatos, they are not included in the program before the advanced level. They can be at the request of the student. - I am also specialized in metal (musical style) and double pedal. The latter is not included in the program unless requested by the student. The double pedal courses are based on the methodology of Virgil Donati. Technique: * Moeller technique (the 'whipping motion' - the Free stroke -Full/Half/Low stroke - accepting the rebound - its application etc.) * Snare rudiments and their applications through reading systems * Readings of scores and exercises for the snare drum * Speed drills * Military marches * Control of the different subdivisions (quarter notes - eighth notes - triplets - sixteenth notes - quintuplets - sextuplets - triple eighth notes - nonolets etc.) * Displacement of accents and polyrhythms * On request, double pedal technique (application of the Moeller to the double pedal as well as everything listed above but with the feet) Drums: * Bass drum reading and independance * Snare drum reading and independance * Applications of ghost notes * The 16 sixteenth-notes ostinatos * Jazz readings and independence * Binary and ternary readings * Coordination and movements of both feet * Dynamics on the instrument * Creation of fills and original drum grooves * On request, application of the double pedal * On request or for advanced students, readings and independence of South American rhythms (study and independence of the clave/Cascara/Mozambique etc.)

Music lessons: drums, percussion, rhythmic music theory...
Hello, I offer drums lessons in a warm place or at your home. Come and discover the battery differently. My mission is to help you develop your own identity on the instrument. I offer you a fun approach that focuses on the pleasure of playing. Having followed training and courses throughout my life (conservatory, schools ...), I am passionate and dedicated to sharing all of my experience with you. I practice in many music groups and other structures (schools, associations ...). With more than 20 years of experience in drums and more than 10 years in percussion, I teach many musical genres (jazz through Latin music, pop, hip hop, rock, hard, punk, metal ..) , the double pedal, notions of music theory, rhythmic reading. Possibility of taking percussion lessons (darbuka, bongos, African djembe, congas, jaw harp, dhol). The programs are directly inspired by internationally recognized methods, thus being able to adapt to the needs, levels and requirements of each individual. I travel but I also receive in a room with equipment available (any age and level of practice are allowed, from initialization to professionals). A different approach to music lessons: My teaching is resolutely modern. Classes are a moment of musical and human sharing where error is used as a positive experience to move forward. We work by oral transmission to complete the scores. We use onomatopoeia to quickly develop musical and felt play, rather than just reading and playing. So ... Tempted? No excuse, I give you couses from Monday to Sunday from 8 am to 11 pm. FROM child (from 5 years old) to senior, and from beginner to professional. Registration possible all year round. Contact me for more info on prices and formulas ... See you soon,

Battery: Classes / internships / training / face-to-face and distance coaching
I offer my services (lessons, internships, training, coaching) to drummers of all levels, all musical styles and all geographic areas The first contact consists above all in discussing the desires and the desired axes of progression. For people wishing to opt for the classic format courses: Different packages with sliding scale tariffs are offered. For people wishing to go further: Intensive training / internship with pedagogy and personalized coaching, in order to give a big boost in technique, music theory (optional), but also on other aspects of the modern musician (home studio, stage ...). This is for any motivated and available drummer, at least 17 years old, wishing / wishing to improve or even professionalize, to become intermittent (e) or teacher of drums, to integrate one or more semi-professional or professional groups, to be versatile or to excel in their favorite style (s) ... For people wishing to learn at their own pace, without any scheduling constraints: System of distance learning videos (which can be accompanied by scores), relating specific themes at the request of the pupil (can possibly replace lessons or be complementary to them) For people who have not yet decided to get started on this instrument: Discovery course over several hours or even several sessions, in order to discover the world of drums (For more details on all these formats, contact me) In all cases, I adapt to each student on: - the form: I am flexible and can use alternatives to music theory for those who are resistant to it (for example, by making a video of the summary of what was seen, by re-explaining orally and by re-performing the exercises on the drums)) - the background: I always adapt to the wishes of the student if he knows what he wants The most important thing for me is to make things seemingly complicated -> simple to understand and to execute, while making sure that I direct the student in the direction he wants to take, and that he takes fun to learn The goal is to regularly cover pieces of music in order to put the things learned in a purely musical context. Regardless of the course chosen, I accept all means of payment, as well as CESUs. The latter is very interesting for the employer (yourself) because it will allow him to benefit either from a tax reduction, or from a tax credit if it is not taxable (50% of the amount courses in the year deducted from taxes or credited in taxes the following year)
