I'm Karl. I'm a native speaker of English (bilingual) and I have been teaching English and Biology in high schools, universities and private companies in Sweden, Hong Kong SAR and The Philippines for 20+ years. I now offer my private tutoring service based here in the Philippines.

About Me
I have been a teacher and researcher for most of my life. Therefore I have had a lot of time thinking about why I enjoy teaching so much. I often get the following questions from my students:
1. What is the easiest way to learn English in Manila?
Never read a translation of an English book again - learn how to use a dictionary efficiently instead; speak only English when going about your daily businesses and tasks - only use your native language as a last resort; watch a lot of English-speaking movies and TV series, but only with English subtitles. Especially comedy shows are useful in this respect since comedy includes a lot of play with language - if you find yourself laughing, you are studying and learning English! After a while, you will see that you don't even need the English subtitles anymore.
2. Is English easy to learn?
Yes, if you immerse yourself in the language daily. However, to write well in English is a tall order; many native English speakers also struggle with this. Call it an art, if you wish. That being said, we can all get better at expressing ourselves in writing with targeted practice and the right support.

In this course, you will be made aware of some common pronunciation mistakes by non-native English speakers, in particular some that are prevalent among Asian speakers, and how to develop strategies to deal with these mistakes. We will also deal with English stress and intonation patterns to help you develop a typical English 'melody' in your speech.
