My goal is to help student build their own mental framework for navigating mathematics. The key is learning to synthesize new information while also gaining skills necessary for advancing in mathematics. I strive to help students build a mathematical intuition by using teaching techniques such as geometric proofs and story proofs. My hope is that students will not simply learn to complete assignments and find the right answer, but rather that they would develop a "healthy relationship" with maths based on understanding, exploration, creativity, and imagination.

Ideal for UK students in secondary school and sixth form or American students in high school and late middle school. I am also happy to tutor through SAT and ACT mathematics!

About Me
About me:
Hi there! I'm Daniel, a graduate of St. Andrews university with a degree in Mathematics and Philosophy. I now study pure mathematics with a focus on logic. I discovered my love of mathematics and logic later only after I began university, so I believe it's never too late to 'become a math person.' All it takes is the right teacher/tutor who makes the ideas 'click' for you! I would love to help you understand math and logic better! I can tutor anything from middle school math to calculus. I especially love tutoring logic: Aristotelian, first-order classical, modal... you name it!

My Approach:
My goal is to help students build their own mental map for navigating mathematics. I strive to teach students to understand how the various aspects of what they are learning fit together. The primary way I do this is through visual/geometric proofs and aids that illustrate and motivate the equations and formulae. However, since not every student will connect with my preferred explanation, I like to slow down and find what works for each student. I will often give a student specific examples to work through that help me discover his pattern of reasoning. That way, we can see clearly how to improve a student's problem-solving skills. I want my students to develop a relationship with mathematics based on exploration, creativity, and competence.

My qualifications:
I hold a first class degree from University of St. Andrews, one of the top ranked universities in the UK for mathematics and for philosophy. In my studies, I especially focused on algebra (group theory, ring theory), logic (classical, non-classical, model theory), and set theory (specially ordinal numbers).

My Experience:
I have been tutoring on-and-off throughout my studies for the last 4 years. I have previously tutored both high school and university students in small in-person sessions as well as one-to-one online. Past examples of tutoring include: SAT math, AP calculus, and university-level logic.

Student Testimonials:
"I highly recommend Daniel as a tutor, due to both his expertise and disposition. Not only does he understand the material well, but his patience in explaining the subject matter helped me enormously. He can explain things well for every kind of learner, which I found especially helpful as a visual learner myself. If in need of help, I would definitely recommend Daniel!!" -- Havana (undergraduate at University of St. Andrews)
