About Me
I always believe that curiosity has been the cornerstone of man's evolution. I had this curiosity and thirst for knowledge in me. I always enjoyed analyzing and understanding the working of automobiles, and this began when I was experimenting on my toys or fixing my bike. My respect for education and inclination towards applied science drove me to opt for math, physics and chemistry in my higher secondary education. After completing my high school, I felt that Engineering would be the area, which would give me the opportunity to learn and explore how the fundamentals of science are applied to create technology for practical and real purposes. I found 'Automobile Engineering', the only way I can satisfy my quest for knowledge and contribute.
As Chennai being the automotive hub of India, seemed to be a natural draw for pursuing this passion and I enrolled in the Under-Graduate Program in Automobile Engineering at SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRM IST), Chennai. Four years of Undergraduate studies in Automobile Engineering introduced me to a multitude of topics ranging from the very basics of Automotive Engines, Mechanics of Solids, Thermodynamics and Kinematics to more advanced courses such as Applied thermodynamics, Vehicle Dynamics, Design of Automotive Component, Alternative Fuels and Emission Control, Automotive Control System, Automotive NVH etc. These subjects have enriched my knowledge to an extent that I feel eager to explore them further. Among which, Vehicle Dynamics and Alternative Fuel was the subject which completely captivated my interest. My undergraduate study was a richly rewarding experience, during which I participated in various Industrial training programs and Conferences.
In the final semester I undertook a major project, “Experimental analysis on optimization and utilization of waste cooking oil bio diesel in CI engine”. Bio diesel production from waste oils is an attractive option to produce bio diesel economically. Posing security threats to energy supplies makes it viable to adopt different and economical sources of energy. Limited research work has been conducted on optimization and utilization of waste cooking oil bio diesel in CI Engine. Under the guidance of my professor, we have designed and constructed a small-scale bio diesel plant comprising of trans-esterification and pyrolysis process plant. Our main objective is to increase the optimization by 10% and the fuel economy improved by 4% and also compare the emission characteristics and engine performance of waste cooking oil bio diesel with the diesel in CI engine. I used Trans- esterification process with alkyl catalyst and Catalytic Cracking in the absence of oxygen for production of bio diesel. Previously similar research work was done on a CI engine but the optimization and yield of bio diesel was less and it is found that the extracted bio diesel from waste cooking oil is suitable on stationary and 5D engines. It is our intention that after our project is over, the waste cooking oil bio diesel is used in Automotive engine like fossil fuels. This project has given me a great exposure in the field of Automotive engines and most important Bio diesel production from waste cooking oil provides an alternative energy means of producing liquid fuels from biomass for various uses. Previously I also worked on the project, “Production of Biofuel from Tannery Waste and testing it in a Diesel Engine” with my professor, that provided opportunity to gain knowledge of Automotive Engine and Alternative Fuels. The 4 years degree undergraduate course has not only provided me strong fundamentals but also has encouraged me to learn more and goaded me to continue research- related activities. My immediate career objective is a master’s degree in Engineering and research- oriented career in industry or academia. The choice of a good university with a faculty dedicated to teaching and research and an atmosphere conducive to learning thus becomes extremely necessary.
