About Me

Since I have been 16 years old, I have performed my own compositions and arrangements live. Most of all, improvisation holds a vital role within these live performances. I am inspired by various sources of spiritual symbolism: the Kabbal, Sanatana Dharma and often poetry.
Additionally, I accompany live projections of silent films.
Throughout the world and in France I have performed with my various bands, ToTem, Elsa&Vincent, Quiproquo mêlent jazz, and presented my various musical projects : improvised music, klezmer, and pop.
I was able to meet and plays with various renown musicians: Manuel Rocheman, Christian Martinez, Jonathan Pontier, Karl Jannuska, Anne Pacéo… as well as collaborate with artists of all trades: from theatre to painting, to photography, dance, miming ...

Education

I am a composer and a concert pianist. I won gold medalist of the CNR student award (Regional Conservatory of Paris). I composed the original score for the film "The Last Minute", nominated at Cannes in 2004, as well as winning a music award at the Reus festival in 2005.
I won the 6th international Emergence and Talent competition of Cannes in 2005 with Laurent Tirard. I was also awarded for the Europa Treasures Film competition in 2012. I have composed music for centennial films such as "Sul Tetto del Mondo".
I have also produced music for adverts and documentaries.

Experience / Qualifications

As an writer and musician combined, I was awarded 1st prize for the competition of "France Musiques des Contes du jour et de la nuit" (France Music for day and night fairytales) in 2012, for my musical fairytale the "Odyssey of Sât and Nirî".

For more than 20 years I have been teaching piano for improvisation and even digital musical composition. I share my passion for music and meditation during the workshops I organise, as well as during collective ad individual classes.

Since 2006, I have travelled to India on a regular basis as a volunteer for the non profit organisation of spiritual Indian leader Amma Embracing the world. There I compose music as part of my volunteering. Staying at her temple, I practice meditation and music daily

As a former professional musician, I offer private piano lessons. My specialty lies in teaching jazz, blues and improvised music. However, I also work with classical music and all other styles, depending on the objectives of my students.

My pedagogical approach is based on a natural method of learning music. We start with listening and playing, then gradually integrate the reading of notes, respecting everyone's rhythm. With this method, students are able to play from the first lesson. Part of the course is dedicated to group practice, with instruments such as piano, double bass and drums.

Classes take place in our private room located at Porte d'Orléans. In addition to individual lessons, we offer ensemble lessons for interested students, as well as the possibility of participating in our choir.

I focus my teaching on the transmission of technical skills necessary for piano and music theory. It begins with the interpretation of an instrumental or accompaniment piece, then opens the way to improvisation and composition.
Generally, I divide the course into two parts (for a duration of one hour):
The first 15 minutes are dedicated to a specific technical question: scale exercises, sight reading, key reading, solmization, harmony, analysis, etc.

A graduate of the Juilliard School of Music (New York), Jules studied with John Corigliano (1999 Oscar winner for Best Film Music), who praised him as “a remarkable talent with impeccable technique.”

Alongside his studies in philosophy, he has received several distinctions: the Marcel Bleustein-Blanchet Foundation for Vocation (2010), the Excellence Scholarship from the Catholic Institute of Paris (2013), the Banque Populaire Corporate Foundation (2015), the Île-de-Créations competition (2017), the Grand Prix Lycéen des Compositeurs (2019) and the Bartók World Competition (2023).

His collaborations include artists such as Jodie Devos, Bruno Philippe, Thomas Dunford, Anastasia Kobekina, Kotaro Fukuma, Justin Taylor, Frank Braley, Paul Meyer, the Hermès Quartet, the Zadig Trio, as well as orchestras including the Orchestre National d'Île-de-France, the Orchestre National de Lyon, the Orchestre de Picardie, the Toulon Opera Orchestra, and the Æon Music Ensemble. His work spans a wide spectrum, from solo piano to large orchestra, including chamber opera and string quartet.
