I'm a 27 years old professional bass player, currently a member of art-rock band Husky Loops, and graduated from the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance in London. My experience in Husky Loops has brought me to tour the UK, Europe, and the US various times, also supporting bands such as Placebo, The Kills, and Spoon, recording sessions for the BBC (Radio 1 at Maida Vale), KEXP (USA) and VEVO between the others. Aside from the band I've been active in the music industry for 8 years while graduating at London's ICMP. This has brought to collaborate with many different artists on various projects, providing me with a great knowledge of different styles, ranging from rock to blues, funk, and hip hop. My lessons will be based on your ability and interests, and will mainly cover different styles, techniques, scales, and improvisations. I studied on the Jazz course at Leeds College of Music for my undegraduate degree, and recently completed an MA in Performance at the School of Oriental and African Studies(University of London), achieving a distinction. As a musician I primarily play Folk/World Music/Jazz. However, I trained classically before atttending music college and am available to take students through classical grades/repertoire if desired. All ages and abilities are welcome, Trinity Guildhall/ ABRSM syllabus can be covered, I am also fully DBS checked.

I'm a composer of electronic music, cellist and artist. I have been teaching at university and privately to a wide range of students from children to adults. I can offer introductory lessons in composition using music technology, cello performance, music theory and history. My aim is to foster creative practice, critical thinking, individual growth and wellbeing through the experience of music-making. The teaching methods I use are based on humanist theories where my role is that of a facilitator. As a teacher, I see myself as supporting students’ individual creative development and my approach changes according to each student’s learning needs and backgrounds. Reflection and evaluation are key principles I adopt in my teaching practice. Exchange and dialogue allow students to reflect on their own and others’ work, to put their practice into context, and to critically engage with the subjects taught.

I teach for all levels, from children starting from zero to students who want to prepare certifications at the Conservatories, passing through amateurs or simply curious of any age. I firmly believe in the importance of knowing how to read music and this is exactly what I teach first, obviously adapting the method to the age of my students: knowing how to read music is knowing one more language, which, if learned well, won’t ever be forgotten (like riding a bicycle!) and it is an invaluable wealth. Starting from that point I teach the position of the hand, the arm and the whole body at the piano, the fundamentals of the piano technique (giving great importance to the percussive movement of the finger and the distribution of weight), the understanding of musical language, the expression of the personality through the keyboard, the search for touch and knowledge of piano repertoire.

Here I am going to train the voice and basic vocal techniques which are used in singing. By this you will be able to sing well without any struggles. Here we will discuss about the basics of music and especially the breath and other techniques that are used in western as well as in Carnatic music.

Listening to several voices at once certainly is one of the most rewarding skills a musician can have, or can acquire. And, no, this is not only for those who are born with this gift. If you listen to music without being able to discriminate precisely the different layers of sound, you already know music is beautiful. I was like that a couple years ago. (Well, provided my gray hair, it must actually be many years ago). I can surely say that being able to listen to several voices at once has brought me much joy! Music became absolutely wonderful! When you can precisely hear the various voices, then you become aware of all the notes that are played, as if some nice new lights were shed on the music. Not only can you enjoy the music more, but as you play you can now shape all the voices in the best possible way, or if you play a duo for instance, you can be sensitive to the way the other musician plays, and musically respond to his or her interpretation. As a musician, that is a life-changing experience, a “must!” That can be learned, slowly but surely, with method. Now, when I say slowly but surely, I talk about mastery. But if we are talking about being able to listen for the first time to an additional note at once, this is usually quite quick (I'd say one lesson, two weeks at most). So, what can we work on? Harmonic intervals, recognizing chords, discriminating notes within a 4 voice chord or aggregate (i.e. hearing the precise voicing of an isolated chord), learning to listen to counterpoint precisely, you name it. That should be based on where you are at, and what you would like to achieve. Anything is possible. Let's talk about it and get started! Although perhaps you want to know this first: My students often tell me I am very patient. I'd rather say I am understanding and straightforward. Actually, please know that I am also demanding: While there is no difficulty that I cannot understand, (and I found it absolutely thrilling to find a solution when the student seems stuck) yet I am not interested in approximation. For some people there is only one way to tackle the unmentionable but I believe there are many different approaches and one of them will click with you. It is simply finding out what is best for each person. Once we find the key we can unlock the problems that have puzzled you for ages. Music theory needs to be more than a requirement, it needs to be the way to really appreciate the music you are playing.
