I am a composer and violinist with 13 years of professional experience in the music industry. I am passionate about helping people of various abilities find their own musical voice, and although the violin is the instrument I specialize in, I am equally keen to help people who want to improve their improvisational and music writing skills (such as Logic/ Sibelius and Songwriting). Together we can design a path of learning whereby you define your own personal goals and I help you to fulfill them.

Experience / Qualifications
I am a composer/producer and violinist living and working in London, after several years in Zurich and Cape Town. My professional life has included teaching violin and music theory to students (aged 5-17) and working as a musical director in both theatrical and musical settings, as well as performances of various nature across the globe. I have participated in music workshops, both here and abroad, including the Young Singers workshop at the Royal Opera House and the ‘Total Fantasy’ Workshop for children in Malmö. I am fluent in music/visual production software (Logic Pro, Sibelius, Premiere Pro and other DAWs) and I am currently completing a part-time Masters in Creative Practice at Goldsmiths University, having recently released a record on the NX label and two set for release with Kit records later this year.

Since studying violin performance at the University of Cape Town under Prof. Farida Bacharova, I have been working as a writer and performer of music across diverse genres, in collaboration with multiple disciplines. My composing credits include short films, commercials, dance pieces, scored works for ensembles, animations, extensive studio work and audiovisual composition.

I find inspiration in both humans and machines, the majority of my work blending synthetic electronic textures with live instruments and voices, and have recently moved further into audiovisual composition. My Cantata ‘Madness: Songs of Hope and Despair’ met with critical acclaim after its run at the Baxter Theatre in 2017. I am also a founding member of the Night Light Collective a flexible configuration of players of diverse instruments who focus their energy on the composition and promotion of new works, and innovative collaborations.

I am an experienced electronic music producer and enthusiastic teacher with students of different levels.

I love sharing my knowledge and to inspire other producers and musicians. I like to focus on the individual skills and goals, and to make specific lesson plans based on each student needs (i.e. for beginners - have a full understanding of production techniques and software features / produce releasable tracks within 6 months; for advanced students - finding a signature sound, improving sound design and mixing skills)

Because of my expertise and versatility, I can teach many different styles of music. As an artist, I mainly focus on producing techno, IDM and house but I have a broad understanding of contemporary music and current trends because of my strong background as a drummer.

My teaching approach is inspired by Paul Harris’ “Simultaneous Learning” and Phyllis Young’s “Playing the String Game”. I combine games and natural instinct to help my students understand playing the cello without overly-complicated instructions.

With 4 years of experience, I’m confident in taking on both young and adult students, from beginners all the way to diploma level, guiding their journey throughout. Learning the cello should be both fun and rewarding.

I tailor my lessons according to each students’ interests, strengths, and weaknesses in order to help them realise to their full potential. I believe in well-rounded development for musicians, providing musicianship, aural, historical knowledge, on top of playing the instrument

Feel free to get in touch to discuss and I’m happy to offer any help.

Evie studied music at university in London and has been playing violin and viola for over 20 years. She is interested in a broad range of music, which she hopes to share with students of all ages and abilities in their lessons. As a performer, Evie plays in various settings - folk, jazz, in bands, as well as more typical orchestral and chamber ensembles. Her own musical interest currently lies in folk, baroque music and improvisation.

Evie has been teaching a broad range of students for the last eight years: those who wish to take graded exams, those looking to explore folk and improvisation, expand their repertoire, or brush up on technique. She also currently teaches group violin classes at a primary school in London.

She has found that encouraging a structured and regular practice at home, if possible with the help of a parent or guardian, is the best way to reach goals and feel confident while playing. Most of all, she encourages students to be open-minded, inquisitive, and ready to listen to a variety of music! Evie is always ready to cater specifically to the needs and interests of the student, and to create a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. In lessons, she will cover sight-reading, exam preparation, music theory, focused technique, improvisation, standard repertoire, and any music the student may wish to explore on their instrument.
