I am a drummer and jazz composer with over 15 years experience. I am a tutor on the Jazz Course at Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. I can teach drums to grade 8 and beyond, as well as improvisation, song writing, harmony and grade 5 theory. I can assist with GCSE and A - Level music and coach band practice too.

This class is designed to support people to understand and appreciate music in a broad and holistic way. There is a focus on developing methods to get the most out of learning an instrument or learning to sing. There is flexibility in what I can cover in the class, and my classes are usually person centred. My desire is to use the skills and knowledge I have gained in my music career so far to help you to achieve your specific goals. I also have a special focus on getting my students confident with learning how to play by ear. I am first and foremost a pianist. I am classically trained but specialised in Jazz at conservatoire level. I also completed a second study in singing during this time. I currently work for my local music service, and have a specialty as a multi-instrumentalist, teaching beginner violin, flute, recorder and trombone. I have also worked for many years as a lecturer and one-on-one teacher for a young performers conservatoire. I also work as a session musician and accompanist, regularly playing all genres of music!

Fine art and Photography projects can be daunting and tricky to manage, with all their evaluative and reflective tasks, experimentation, and themes... Together we can work through anything you find challenging, making sure to follow the marking criteria to tick all the points you need to not just pass, but exercise your creativity and find your confidence! You will learn techniques to start a project, how to research other artists for inspiration, the drafting process for photoshoots or final pieces and how to link your work to bigger themes and make your art emotionally expressive. I can help with technical elements in drawing and painting, using different materials, being experimental in your photography and your pieces. Cathy started her music teaching career in 2015, and has been teaching students from beginner to grade 8, aged from 6 to 35 years old. She always welcomes students who wish to explore more about music, building up playing the flute as their hobby, as well as growing together with them as their role models. She feels very glad and blessed to be the teacher of her students, as well as being their sister, witnessing their growth and becoming a good friend to them. In the lesson, she would always love to play studies, and exercise, as well as play flute pieces and duets together with the students. To broaden their horizons, she would love to share different music recordings, as well as discuss the music together during the lesson. Cathy believes that it is essential for students to step out of the classroom to learn music, rather than just playing the flute. During years of teaching, she has encountered students taking different examination grades. Cathy understands the importance of choosing the pieces for students, she would love to demonstrate pieces and discuss the preferences with the students together. As the mode of having examinations has varied these years, she has already adapted to preparing students for the exams under different situations. Gladly, most of her students could attain merit or even distinction under her tutelage.
