Learn French with me! Relaxed and personalized lessons for all levels

From 30 £ /h

Hi! I'm Melissa :)
I'm French and currently living in Rotterdam. I'd love to help you learn French or improve the French you already know! I know that learning a new language can sometimes feel intimidating, especially when it comes to actually speaking it. That's why I'd like my lessons to be a relaxed space where you can practice, make mistakes, ask questions and improve at your own pace.
Whether you're starting from scratch, want to feel more comfortable having conversations, or need some help with grammar and vocabulary, we can adapt the lessons to what works best for you.
We can focus on everyday conversations, pronunciation, grammar, or simply talk about topics you're interested in.
I think having fun while learning makes a big difference!

I'm happy to teach online or in person in Rotterdam.
Hope to see you soon! :)

About Me

Hi! I'm Melissa :)
I'm originally from France and currently living and working in Rotterdam as an engineer. I've lived in different countries and have always loved meeting people from different backgrounds, discovering new cultures and learning languages.
I've also had the opportunity to teach children and students, covering everything from languages to science and engineering subjects. It's something I really enjoy, especially finding different ways to explain things until they finally click!I'd describe myself as patient, friendly and easygoing.
I like making lessons interactive and creating a comfortable environment where students aren't afraid to ask questions or make mistakes.
I believe everyone learns differently, so I always try to adapt my approach to the person I'm teaching.
Looking forward to meeting you! :)

My academic background has given me a strong foundation in mathematics, science and problem-solving.

Experience / Qualifications

I have experience teaching languages to children, as well as teaching science subjects in different languages and helping students with engineering-related courses.

A qualified language coach with 25 years of experience offers intensive Dutch lessons in a small class or online.

I give many Dutch NT2 lessons to expats and in preparation for an integration exam.
Specialized in guiding for the State Exam I and II. Special exam coach.

In January 2025 I will also start with groups again. We have a great classroom in the center of Rotterdam, near metro station Beurs, lessons with small homogeneous groups (little difference in level).

We mainly go for quality and not just running a lesson. I am really involved in the progress of the student. In addition to teaching, I want to do everything to really motivate students to take the next step. That is my strength!

You can also choose the online lesson package with Whereby, Teams or Zoom in a comfortable way. Online classes are one-on-one or maximum one-on-two, for better results.

My English is fluent, as well as Portuguese and Spanish. I understand the difficulties of overcoming barriers for Latin languages and for expats in general, as I have also been an expat.

Online lessons last 75 minutes once a week for 10 weeks to reach a higher level.

This is the normal speed. Including exam training (A-2 or Staatsexamen) and exam at the end.

Intensive training ? That can also be done in five to ten full days, I am used to giving these very intensive trainings to CEOs or managers who want it faster and more intensive ... all lessons within 3 or 4 weeks. Based on the European system A-1, A-2, B-1, B-2 and C-1

As soon as students want to further improve their knowledge of Dutch, I always advise and coach them to take the State Exam I or II, the only formal Certificate in this country, recognized by employers and universities.

I will try to switch to conversation after a few lessons, to put your knowledge into practice as soon as possible. Don't get too caught up in the grammar.

Teaching is my ultimate passion and even after 25 years it feels like the first time and students always feel inspired to overcome the obstacles.

I also teach you about Dutch social culture, which is intertwined in the course and is strongly related to the language.

I know that some students think some subject in school is so hard to understand, sometime it feels like the teacher is not talking the same language, very hard to understand. I'm used to be like that but then when I understand how to translate that into my own thinking, my own language. It helps me understand things in my own way and makes everything feel easier.
I want to help anyone who has that challenge, especially in subjects such as math, economics, logistics, and calculations. So if you want to more, feel free to have a chat! Always nice to talk :)
