Voice Lessons for Young/ Inexperienced Singers - Classically Focused
From 26.82 £ /h
These lessons are for young and/or inexperienced singers. My lesson plans are tailored towards students' individual goals. For some, this may be learning and embodying an audition song for their school's upcoming theater performance, and for others voice lessons are a first step towards singing healthily in their church choir. In any case, I focus on correcting and building core skills necessary to singing one's best while encouraging and fostering creativity, accountability, and motivation.
If considered for a long-term journey towards singing, I will focus particularly on classical techniques to build steady breath control, good posture, and proper vowel and consonant formation. Along with providing repertoire, if the student is ready and wants, there will be opportunities for vocal performance in the Santa Cruz area. I will encourage audio recordings in all lessons to help with future preparations. I will be assigning some homework after every lesson, likely a combination of vocalization exercises, dedicated sheet music practice, and theory homework (if needed).
*My first lesson will involve getting to know the student, their goals, and some vocalization to assess vocal level. For singers with minimal/no prior foundational music theory knowledge, I may recommend time from lessons (15-30 minutes) being allocated solely towards foundational music theory learning.

About Me
I'm currently a Fourth Year Music Major (B.M.) for Vocal Performance at UCSC. With my background in vocal solo and choral performance, I'm looking for students who are eager to get their foot in the ground with a supportive, young, patient, and outgoing teacher.
I've worked and volunteered with young children in an unrelated environment in the past, and would like to integrate my music knowledge to help encourage students of all ages to use their voices as an outlet for creativity.
I started singing and playing piano myself at the age of seven, and did not see a career in it until entering college. Without the encouragement and patience of my educators, I would not have the experience, knowledge, and perseverence to continue with music in such a turbulent world. This is why I believe that quality of education in music is so important to foster growth both inside and outside of my lessons. While technique and music theory are foundational towards singing, compassion and understanding for the music sung and the singer are equally as important. This is why I like to approach singing holisitically, as I believe it is necessary to foster healthy growth within the singer both mentally and vocally. Music practice should rarely be dreaded, and rather precisely motivated through specific and individualistic guidance: something I hope to provide for all of my students.
