Hello! My name is Kajsa, and I am a 21 year old vocalist and musician from Sweden. I am currently in my third and final year of University at BIMM London, where I study Popular Music Performance Vocals. I have been singing and taking vocal lessons since I was 7 years old. I have been trained both classically and commercially. I prefer the commercial training because it allows the singer to focus more on the emotion when singing instead of posture and vocal techniques. Ofcourse there is a lot of technique that goes into it which we will focus on aswell, but in todays popular music the listener is looking for an emotion and a voice they can relate to. It can’t be too perfect and classical in the commercial scene today, that removes all the rawness and emotion that the listener is looking for, in my oppinion. I want to offer my potential students a safe place where they can belt their heart out or be vulnerable in their headvoice without judgement. I know I lacked this when i was growing up into this industry, and I would love to give the confidence of not caring too much and to teach how to be brave enough to sing with 100% emotion. Not holding anything in. Singing should be fun, raw and brave. This is what i offer during my lessons. /Kajsa

Trusted teacher: Hi, I am Paige, a Leeds based vocal coach and I offer lessons 1 to 1 at home (with recent events I am teaching online via Zoom). I began singing at a young age and began to train my vocals at the age of 11, I have recently finished my final year at university and am set out to graduate with a 1st in professional music performance. Each lesson is catered to what each client wishes to improve upon/achieve, whether that be working on your pitch and tone, improving breathing techniques or preparing for a performance/audition. All skill levels are welcome from working on singing as a hobby or wanting to graduate to a more professional level. Lessons begin with a 10 to 15-minute vocal warm-up that is tailored to the clients’ vocal ability, this may be altered on the spot fit how the client is feeling on any given day (i.e. if they aren’t feeling their best vocally, the warm-up can be adapted to be gentler in order to avoid any damage to the voice). Skills we will look to improve during lessons include: - breathing technique - pitch correction - tonality - speech quality - strengthening both the upper and lower register - belting - stage presence - mic technique

Learning to sing can have quite an impact on many aspects of your life. Of course, it brings a lot of joy but it can also help with building confidence, help you relax and it’s also known to be beneficial to your health! In my classes, I want to work on these things and help you become the singer you want to be. My music lessons do not necessarily have the aim to make you “better” but to guide you on your individual music journey. That is why we establish in the first classes what your style and your aspirations are and based on those I tailor a program to meet your needs. My name is Jonas, I am a professional musician and singer and started my personal music journey over ten years ago. Initially trained from a young age in classical singing, I later moved on to do jazz and contemporary styles and then decided to move to London to study Music Performance and Production at LCCM. Over the years I came to an important realization. Although music and singing technique is extremely important, the purpose of music is to convey emotion. I feel this is an aspect that is quickly overlooked but makes the difference in being able to make an audience remember you or not. These aspects of the authenticity of voice and performance I focus on in my classes. It doesn’t matter which age or which singing level you currently are - everyone is welcome in my classes. I truly believe that anyone can sing and that everyone should experience the joy of singing.

Trusted teacher: Hello! My name is Lauren, a freelance singing teacher living in London. I teach all genres and all levels, and am most concerned with meeting you where you are and reaching your vocal goals together. I have been teaching piano and voice for over ten years now, a journey which began during my undergraduate studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. I went on to study vocal pedagogy closely at Indiana University, and continued to grow my studio as I moved to study at Yale, where I joined Yale College faculty to teach the undergraduate voice students. I worked with the Glee Club, A Capella groups, and members of the community from ages 6-55. Having two master’s degrees in addition to my bachelors, I am very familiar with the pursuit of higher education, and how critical the arts is to that. Alongside this, I am of the genuine belief that music and singing are of critical importance to the developing person and humanity at large. I believe music to be such a unique opportunity to not only grow skills and mastery, but to enhance a pupil's enjoyment of life, self confidence, and all aspects of their development. Seeing the aspects of music enrich other parts of a person's life is my joy and charge as an educator. I always strive to maximise on a student's language skills, and taking a unique and individual approach to the character of each student. I am a published writer (Journal of Singing April/May 2020) where I explore the necessary adjustments and awareness a teacher must be conscious of when dealing with a person who is experiencing trauma or emotional difficulties. I take this forward into my teaching, not only for reasons of empathy, but this approach has often resulted in learning with increased efficiency and a higher chance of a student reaching their potential. Looking forward to hearing from you! Lauren

Trusted teacher: Languages are becoming more and more essential to solidify a good understanding and communication of this world’s constant change. Therefore, Spanish, being one of the most popular language, becomes an important tool. In order to speak it, the class is composed by grammar, vocabulary, listening and speaking. Depending on the time and frequency, the student will be be able to articulate thoughts and write them. It is vital that the language is spoken, hence, depending on the student’s level, the class will be provided in Spanish and English (swapping when necessary).

I believe that singing is wonderful for the soul and a fantastic way to engage your mind and body. It’s so exciting for me as a teacher to help a student along on their music journey and to see them unlock their potential. Music is a powerful force and there is honestly nothing better than seeing the positive impact it has on people. I encourage my students to maintain a goal; something to work towards whether it’s finally getting up and singing at an open mic, preparing for an exam, auditioning for a production or putting on a recital! I believe that everyone has a voice and that nobody should ever feel discouraged from making it heard and I pledge as a teacher to help each pupil discover their own identity within the world of song. As an accomplished pianist I also accompany my students in their lessons. I believe that firmness and fairness is key to helping a pupil along the way and that a down to earth 'can do' attitude from both teacher and pupil can make all the difference. I have a piano at home and prefer to accompany my students in their lessons so please take this into consideration if you do not have access to a piano at home!

Throughout my whole life I have immersed myself in music and singing. At the age of 7 I started piano and vocal lessons which led to writing my own music at the age of 12. This gave me the goal of wanting to sing my own original music to an audience. I decided to apply for The Brit School for Performing Arts and Technology in London. After successfully receiving a place I studied a range of styles from jazz, pop, soul and folk as well as composition, music business and music history classes. From here I decided to Specialise in Jazz and am currently In my final fourth year at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance as a Jazz vocals student. I have played at venues all around London: in known jazz clubs such as Ronnie Scotts, The Spice of Life and Oliver’s jazz bar. I have also sung solo and been a member of cast at many famous theatre's such as at Leicester Square Theatre, Theatre Royal Haymarket, White Rock Theatre Hastings and Theatre Royal Brighton. in 2018 I travelled to Norway, studying jazz and Norwegian folk music at The Edward Grieg Academy. I now regularly visit for gigs with my band there. The music I listen to is eclectic and I am happy to work with any student who want to study all genre's of music or specialise in one. We can work on writing songs, new repertoire, technique and posture and setting any short and long term goals. In 2019 I was working in China for a few months singing at a jazz club. I have now returned to London to continue with my teaching and to finish my degree in May 2020.

Everyone can sing, everyone can write music. It's all around us; it's a form of self-expression that we all have inside us, just like verbal communication and language. If we understand music, we can speak it as well. It's only a question of how to structure what's in us, and what tools we can use to express it.
