I am a fully qualified teacher with twenty-three years' experience of KS3, GCSE and A-Level with many different exam boards, both UK and international. I am a former Head of Department and have taught in three prestigious independent schools in the UK. My style is highly effective and will not only rapidly improve your confidence to speak, listen, read and write but will give you a solid foundation of grammar on which to build, rather than just teaching you banks of vocabulary to memorise. My lessons are fun, engaging and interactive and I make all my own resources, which I tailor to suit the needs and interests of my individual students. Whatever your reason for learning French or German, exam help, test revision, ravel or just for the fun of it, I can tailor something for you. I recently realised, when my school moved to full-time online teaching via MS Teams, that students can get just as much out of online tuition as they can in a classroom, if not more! As a native speaker of English who learned languages in a classroom, I know first-hand the challenges you are facing but it needn't be difficult! Whether you are in need of a single lesson or an entire course, I am sure we can work something out. I can also offer tuition in English (from any age to GCSE) and Common Entrance Exam Preparation. Happy to teach online or in person and can host, too. I look forward to hearing from you. Duncan

About Me
Hi! I am a teacher of twenty-three years' experience in both public and private sectors with extensive experience of teaching French and German to GCSE and A-Level with a variety of examination boards, including Cambridge and Edexcel IGCSE. I have also mentored several students for Oxbridge application. I am happy to tutor online and am available for home visits. I can also tutor English to GCSE level (language and literature) and have experience teaching A-Level Politics. I am a former Head of Department, Head of French and Head of German. Friendly, encouraging and, as an English native speaker, sympathetic to the problems facing English students trying to learn a foreign language. I am happy to fit in around your schedule. My methods are tried and tested, communicative, fun, rewarding and offer a very solid grasp not just of communication but of grammar and syntax too. I have a track record of excellent exam results. Equally happy to tutor adults just wishing to learn conversational, business or holiday French or German, 1-to-1 or in small groups. I Look forward, very much, to hearing from you! Duncan

English is the lingua franca. The principal way to master it is to practice, because as the adage goes, 'practice makes perfect.' However, unlike the saying, there is no single model for English. There is Business English, Academic English, informal English and conversational English. The list goes on. This diversity means that understanding the nuances of English can be challenging.
That's where I come in. I am an adaptive English teacher with three years of teaching experience and five years of academic editing experience. I have taught children as young as two and adult learners up to 80. While this broad range requires different approaches, they all have one thing in common: COMMUNICATION. Be it reading, writing, listening or speaking, I will provide you with an authentic communicative practice adapted to each student's needs.

I have experience in the following areas:
Business English including C.V., cover letters and workplace communication;
Proofreading and copyediting high school, college and university papers;
Pre-sessional English for academic tutoring (tertiary) for various subjects, including M.A. Supply Chain Management, B.A. Teaching, B.A. Nursing, B.A. Graphic Design etc.;
Sessional academic tutoring;
IELT’s/ TOEIC/TOEFL tutoring;
English with young learners;

Moreover, if you are unsure where to start or require ongoing assistance with writing, I can provide you with a truly personalised approach to writing as we can assist you from the start!
