About Me

Enthusiastic Humanities, History and French tutor!
I really enjoy teaching which is for me one of the best ways to transmit knowledge and support students in their path to building knowledge. I started as a French teacher in a local primary school and when I studied for my Ph.D. in Environmental Humanities, Archaeology and Geo-archaeology, I had the opportunity to become a teaching assistant and then a lecturer. I love teaching history which is my main academic background with specific expertise in medieval and environmental history, archaeology and geoarchaeology. As a historian, I help students to develop critical thinking, analyzing and understanding primary and secondary sources and also develop and master their communication skills (oral and written) which are essential not only for the study of history but also the day-to-day life. As an archaeologist /geo-archaeologist I have gained considerable skills in both the private sector and academia as a lecturer, and published author. Teaching is extremely rewarding when I can see students developing their knowledge and succeeding in their studies no matter the subject.
Whether you are looking to improve your conversation or need a tutor for academic purposes, as a french Native speaker I will support your learning. We will use your own material which could be complemented by various media supports such as watching TV programmes, reading books and magazines and listening to french songs too. With me you will be immerge in French culture which is the best way to understand and practice a language.

International Baccalaureate History (Standard Level, Higher Level, Grade 3 - DP2, IB)
I completed the IB DP with a consistent 7/ high 6 in Higher Level History, and this has always been one of my favorite subjects. I am very good at this subject and have somewhat of a passion for it. I have a very good grasp of what is expected from the IB students as pertains to this subject, and I know the ins and outs of the criteria and the weird and wonderful little ways in which the IB expects the students to perform. I am able to help with any course work, homework, assignments, or assessments. As pertains to the DP students, I also did my EE on a History topic so I can assist there if need be. I am also a tutor in English and as comprehensive writing and legibility is a large part of what is expected from IB History students, I can offer particular insight into how to best write and get arguments across.

Ask me about Jamaica! Are you curious to learn more about Jamaica- to go beyond Reggae and Jerk? Its history, people, politics and culture?
Ever wondered about life in Jamaica beyond the lights of Kingston’s allure? This class offers an ethnographic journey of practises and cultures in rural Jamaica, illustrated through photos, songs and videos. Let's explore life in rural Jamaica! Born and raised in a remote rural district/village, I will take you on an authentic journey of first hand experiences- reliving fond childhood memories, the stories my grandmother told me and what a typical day is like. This will be grounded in the history and culture of Jamaica. Coming from a background in diplomacy, sharing about Jamaica's culture and historical experiences has always been essential for opening the door to a deeper unerstanding. I have an avid interest in other cultures and always take the time to explore wherever I go. Having been to South and Central America, Asia, North America and Europe, I know the unique value of such rich experiences. Whenever I was home-sick while posted abroad, talking about my homeland was the only cure. I will share with you all there is about living in rural Jamaica, from different perspectives of my childhood, teenage years and adult life. One unique bit is that the district's enduring small farms form the centrepiece around which everything revolves. Come prepared with a curious mind, and if you want to make notes take your pen and paper or do so on your devices. It is important for me that your are learning, so I encourage you to ask questions. Let's go beyond Kington's enigma!

International Baccalaureate Higher Level History. (Essay Writing for Papers 1, 2 and 3)
History Higher Level can be an extremely challenging class, not only incorporating the skill of essay writing but also that of memorising swathes of facts. As a recent graduate of the IB Diploma who achieved a 7 in History HL, I know exactly what it takes to achieve the top grades. I have designed my course to gradually build upon essay structure, planning and writing as skills. We will begin by identifying weak points in your own technique and then tailor the course to what suits your needs. I will help you to be able to be prepared for a myriad of different exam topics which may show up and provide you with exam techniques which are essential for reaching the higher grades. I will assign homework for some lessons to track your progress.

Excellent English Literature & English language Tutor
I have experience teaching large classrooms and one to one tuition. I have a BA in English Literature and a Masters in English Literature from the University of Durham. I am a patient and thorough teacher and have helped students to develop their essay writing and comprehension skills. I believe that continued reading is an essential part of developing as an English and History student and that practice really does make perfect! I am a qualified TESOL teacher and after graduating with my undergraduate degree in 2015 worked in PR, Communications and Marketing. I am seeking to build on my previous teaching experience before continuing my education and am therefore hoping to provide tuition in essay writing, English Literature and English Language, and History. I am a nuanced grammarian, a stickler for semantics and believe studying literature and History develops an independent mind and the ability to understand the world from different perspectives. I am happy to tutor Secondary and Higher students and am also available to support students currently studying for their undergraduate degree. I am also available to tutor younger learners.

Tutoring in social subjects: history, English and Spanish.
Social subjects make it possible to gain insight into contemporary problems and make communication more efficient and more fun. It is therefore only natural that a certain basis is expected from everyone. If you have trouble with this, or want to go that extra mile, then I would love to help! I myself am a bachelor student in theoretical physics at the University of Maastricht, but I have a very large basis and interest in these subjects. I speak fluent Dutch and English, and my Spanish is also very good because I lived in Ecuador for a year. History is actually my main area of interest, more than physics too. I am therefore very well read in history, and more than that, I am someone who likes to explain the story and the flow in history. This makes tracking and understanding history a lot easier. If there are any questions, please let me know!

History (for primary/secondary school, GCSE, A level)
History is a fascinating subject to study at school whether studying it at a high level such as A level or in secondary school building crucial skills for the future that will help you understand the world. However, mastering the art of History exams can be difficult (as a student myself I know!), and therefore having a former student who has achieved the highest grades help with it can both enable a student to reach their full potential and discover a newfound excitement towards the subject.

History GCSE Tutoring for Students of all Abilities
GCSE History can pose considerable challenges to the student, predominantly due to the often unfamiliar way of approaching questions in the exam, and thanks to the wealth of information a student has to learn. My aim for this class would be to consolidate their learning, explain historical themes and concepts and offer guidance on exam technique. I am, however, flexible, and will respond to whatever each student needs. Though I am not a specialist in all fields of history, I have a broad understanding of historical themes as a whole, and can quickly absorb new information to benefit all students in their learning.
