I am an experienced performer and I have had extensive training in both teaching and performing singing myself! I have been teaching for 7 years and have been singing for as long as I can remember. Having studied in Edinburgh under Irene Drummond (BBC Singers) and also having started recently at the Royal Academy of Music to do a Master's in Operatic Singing I am super keen to teach singing and music in general! I cater to all styles, musical theatre, pop, singer songwriter (I teach song writing lessons as well), opera, classical, folk, choral, jazz, rock etc... Anything you can think of, I would love to teach and you will have an amazing time doing it! Lessons are taught by Chris, an experienced pianist and singer who has studied music from the age of 4. Preferably, lessons will be taught at the student’s home (with COVID safety measures in place). Music theory can be taught over webcam if the student requests. It is preferable that piano is not taught over webcam, however, this option can be considered should the student request. It is not advised that singing is taught over webcam due to the poor sound quality on webcam. Chris has a special interest in singing for musical theatre as he has performed professionally in musicals and currently manages a professional musical theatre touring group. He also works as a freelance musical director. Chris’ work hasn’t gone unnoticed. The students will learn vocal fundamentals to strengthen the voice and to improve voice control and sound in general, extend range, work on chest and head voice, harmonising and breathing techniques. We will do different sets of vocal exercises to improve vocal abilities and work on different songs to put all the theory and exercises in to practice.

About the classes: Created for complete beginners and those with some experience of Piano and Singing technique, this classes serve as an ideal starting point to develop piano and singing technique, to work on improvisation skills and sight-reading, to learn in depth music theory and chords and also to explore various music genres, to build up personal portfolio, self-confidence and stage presence. 1-1 sessions are available in sung voice, spoken voice and performance coaching. The voice is a vital communicative tool. It is a muscle that can be trained in many ways and for many purposes. A realised voice requires no attention on mechanics so that an individual can realise their performance potential. My aim is to support the strengthening and toning of the voice so that even in stressful scenarios, such as making a presentation or performing on stage, the individual can focus on delivering an engaging performance rather than having to think about vocal technicalities.

I am a professional singer and have taught singing for the past ten years at schools and Music Colleges. I teach the Associated Board syllabus but also vocal technique, breathing, range and performance to beginners and professionals of all ages.
