Private, 1-1 singing lessons offered both online and in-person, for lengths of 30, 45 and 60 minutes as determined by the student. You will learn the basics of classical singing technique, including advice on breathing and support, avoiding tension and overall sound projection. You will also get language help and tuition to help pronunciation of your music. You will learn how to become a better stage performer and grow in confidence as a singer. If you wish, I can also help with tips for improving sight-singing, and with music theory. I am a professional countertenor, and a graduate of the Royal College of Music (MMus) and St John's College, Cambridge (BA Hons in Italian and French). I was a finalist in the Kathleen Ferrier Awards at the Wigmore Hall in 2024, and have performed as both soloist and chorister in concert venues all around the world, including the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Singapore Esplanade, Royal Festival Hall and Royal Albert Hall. I have trained choirs with members ranging from 10 years old to over 70, so am able to teach any age as required and help with any vocal issues you may be having. As a former chorister at the King's Chapel of the Savoy, and the BBC Radio 2 Young Chorister of the Year in 2011, I know what it is like to be a young singer, so can help your child grow in confidence to meet their singing goals.

I usually structure a one-hour lesson around different stages. We begin with breathing and preparation exercises, followed by a range of vocal warm-ups designed to develop technique in a healthy and sustainable way. I vary the exercises and focus from lesson to lesson so that students continue to develop without placing unnecessary strain on the voice. We then work on repertoire. I like to create a balance between songs the student loves and songs that will challenge them musically and vocally. I may suggest a piece based on the student's individual goals, while also giving them the opportunity to choose music that genuinely excites them. Depending on the student's interests and level, lessons can include work on: Vocal technique and healthy singing Breathing and vocal control Pitch and musicianship Confidence and performance skills Song interpretation and expression Repertoire development Preparing for live performances Songwriting and creative expression Recording and studio skills I also have experience delivering group workshops and collaborative music sessions, which I particularly enjoy because they create a fun and interactive environment where students can learn from and inspire one another. My approach as a teacher One of the things I value most as a teacher is being able to inspire and motivate students from their very first lesson. I want students to develop their skills, but also to develop a genuine love for music and singing. My own vocal teacher had a huge influence on my musical journey. She showed me how powerful an encouraging, passionate and supportive teacher can be, and that experience has strongly shaped the teacher I want to be. I am also very patient and understand that everyone learns at a different pace. As a singer and musician myself, I know that some things can take time to understand and develop. I never want students to feel that they are being compared to someone else. Instead, I focus on helping each person recognise their own progress and build confidence step by step. As a working vocalist, songwriter and recording artist, I can also bring real-world experience of live performance, rehearsals, songwriting and studio work into my lessons. I enjoy sharing practical knowledge from my own musical career and helping students understand how the skills they develop can be applied beyond the lesson.

Music has always been a huge part of my life and I would be thrilled to pass on my knowledge. I studied music at university and have Grade 8 in both piano and vocals, but I have also performed in many different venues across the UK. I have helped previous students with stage-fright and anxiety with performing as well as aiding them learn their favourite songs on piano - and singing along at the same time. I can teach in many different piano styles from popular music to classical and I can also teach music theory. I have a deep passion for traditional, holistic yogic practises and I understand that large classes can be overwhelming. I have found that Yoga is very individual, and with gentle 1:1 guidance, has lots room for personal growth. I can teach poses, breathing techniques and meditation to help us feel the best we can. All my lessons will be tailored to each student, we will discuss together the goals of the practise, and provide the balance of learning, but also making it fun and enjoyable and a space to relax.

I have experience singing jazz, pop and musical theatre and have completed one year on a Vocal Studies course at a Music Conservatoire. I have an incredible wealth of experience teaching classical music. I specify all the way from baroque music to contemporary and can apply to any age. I am currently at the prestigious Royal Academy of Music under the tutelage of the Head of Vocals there and have years of experience with the voice. I am training myself to become an opera singer but started out with Musical theatre so have a wide range of experience with that too! I already teach privately and can prepare students for vocal ABRSM examinations if they wish.
