Hi my name is Osian and I’m a cellist from South Wales. I’ve taught children of many ages and standards and I really feel privileged to be a part of someone’s musical and personal development. Music lessons can be a way of reaching the concert platform or it could be a way of expressing yourself and being creative, wether it’s a career path or not. I grew up playing and singing where my first priority was to fall in love with music and learn to perform it to the best standard that I could do and that’s what I’d like to encourage my students to aim for too. Hey! My name is Daan and I am a keyboard player, producer and songwriter and I am happy to teach piano at your home in Amsterdam. I graduated from the Conservatory of Amsterdam pop department and am also very active in bands (as a keyboardist, singer, guitarist, bassist and drummer) and as a producer/songwriter in various genres. As a teacher, I am mainly concerned with what the student wants to achieve and what can be gotten out of the student. Do you want to learn that one new song by Billie Eilish, or an advanced piece by Stevie Wonder; I can always help you. The great thing about music is that you can learn and perform it at all kinds of levels. My job is to find the right level for the right student, so that progress can be made at the same time as there is fun during the lessons. In addition, I find it important that my students not only play the piano, but also understand the music and build up a knowledge of the music theory behind the pieces. I studied at the Royal Conservatory of the Hague and I just completed a master in Vocals and Piano at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. I give Jazz/Pop/Classical Piano lessons but my main goal is to try to give the student a general understanding of the music to approach every style and to have fun with music! My teaching method developed during 20 years of experience and thanks to my studies of Music Pedagogy and Piano Teaching during my Master's in Piano at Livorno's Conservatory. I am currently a piano teacher in a British School and I prepared several students for ABRSM and Trinity College exams. As a private piano teacher, I work preferably in my studio, on a beautiful grand piano Yamaha, but, if not too far, I am also available for lessons at the student's house. My teaching is adapted to the skills and goals of each student. With beginning children, I aim at full musical development of the student (not just playing notes, but feeling the rhythm, singing, and expressing emotions through free improvisation); technically I don't work only at the finger position, but at the organic interaction arm-wrist-fingers, through simple exercises. With adult or advanced students, I observe them, to suggest which type of repertory to work together, and which aspects of the technique might still need improvement. I teach classically, through the learning of notes, harmony, and written music, but I teach also how to play songs with only chord symbols, and blues improvisation at a basic level. Both with children and adults I aim at creating a joyful experience during the lesson, in which focus is gained in a playful way, finding each time the best practicing solutions to technical and musical difficulties. In this way, practicing at home becomes not another heavy duty to add to an already busy schedule, but repeating a creative, searching experience, that is never the same. Books: the use of a method is often suggested in the first years. Later I advice classical pieces to be studied. Also, Pop or Rock songs that the student would like to perform are well accepted, if I think the student can afford them.
