My name is Luke and I am a 24 year old, multi-award winning guitarist from Greenwich, London. I am an experienced and enthusiastic teacher and am adept at all varieties of guitar playing, including, classical, acoustic, electric and bass. Regarding my previous experience in tutoring, I have given 1000's of hours of guitar tuition both privately and in school settings. These experiences have given me a keen sense of how to motivate students and offer them concise and useful advice. I have worked at many excellent institutions in the past, including Streatham and Clapham Girls' School (one of the top private girls schools in the country), Orpington Music Studio, The Royal Arsenal School of Music and Canada Blanch Music Academy. I have found over my experiences of being taught and then eventually teaching that the best method for getting the most out of a student is to listen. If the tutor is acutely aware of where their student needs help and where they are already confident, they can tailor classes carefully to make the best use of the time allowed and to get the maximum potential out of them. This philosophy leads to classes being student-oriented, in that the student leads the tuition. The tutor acts as a supportive crutch, first working through problems together, then allowing them to explore it themselves with the tutor to lean back on. In my first years of training, like many others, I completed grades. Because of this I have a very good knowledge of what it takes to move along this system. However, the grade system should not be seen as the only way to learn an instrument. The same achievement can be gained through simple discussion between student and teacher and the correct prescription of pieces and studies to work on. The theory of everything tends to be really scary and music theory can be too. I am very keen to make music theory easy for everyone. For some people there is only one way to tackle the unmentionable but I believe there are many different approaches and one of them will click with you. It is simply finding out what is best for each person. Once we find the key we can unlock the problems that have puzzled you for ages. Music theory needs to be more than a requirement, it needs to be the way to really appreciate the music you are playing. Certain aspects can also lead to additional practical skills such as improvisation which can be very useful as well as very enjoyable. Hi, i'm Sasha and I've been actively teaching music for the last 10 years. I'm very passionate about music and guitar in particular and it brings me a lot of joy to be able to share this passion. I enjoy being able to explain a musical topic well, working on it together with a student and seeing them grow into musician they aspire to be. I don't think everybody who is a good musician can be a good teacher and I had some bad teachers in my life so I put a lot of effort in being on the top of my game. It is important for me to have a comfortable and friendly atmosphere during lessons, set individual goals based on musical tastes and have a structured, personalised approach. This class is meant for students of different age groups and playing levels. From absolute beginners to more advanced players. The approach is individual and we will discuss the desired goals in advance and build the learning process around those. Some topics that are usually covered are rhythm guitar, being able to accompany yourself while singing (in different styles and techniques), lead guitar, improvisation (from basics to advanced), general knowledge of the fretboard and technique. There will very likely be some degree of music theory during guitar lessons as I am a firm believer that you have to understand the thing you're learning to fully master it, but no worries - it will only be as much as is necessary to have the control and understanding of the instrument in a chosen style (and if you are into music theory I will be more than happy to nerd out together!).
