Lessons in piano, composition, harmony and counterpoint and music theory from an Oxford educated musician
From 25.88 £ /h
What motivates me to teach is my desire to share my passion for music. Whatever your level or your interests in the subject, I aim to share my enthusiasm and knowledge with you through personalised, engaging and interactive lessons.
My goal is to instil in the student a spirit of enquiry and the ability, for those starting out, to approach their playing/composing creatively and personally, and for those more advanced, to continue to develop their own artistic style and ideas. I seek to adapt my teaching carefully to the needs and particular ambitions of the student, above all in terms of workload and specific goals, such as university entrance exams/interviews, school or practical exams (for example at conservatoire or UK grade exams).

Extra information
For those wishing to take piano lessons, we can work either entirely through an online video chat (such as skype) or through a mixture of sent video recordings and live discussions. For the latter option, the videos will be discussed in the lesson, and will naturally lead to an exploration of relevant musical and technical issues. For more advanced students this option would be better as the videos would be of a higher quality than if they were done live over Skype!

About Me
Hi!
I'm Alastair, a pianist and composer originally from Newcastle upon Tyne in the north of England, but I have been living in the north of France for three years now. I have a lot of experience as a teacher, performer and composer. I have given many recitals as a soloist and as a chamber and orchestral musician. As a composer I have had the opportunity to write for many different musicians and ensembles including "The Heath Quartet" and "Tritium Trio".
For the past three years I have worked as an educator and my desire to teach comes from wanting to share my passion, knowledge and experience with you. I aim to provide lessons with are as adapted as possible to your own specific ambitions and which will give you an independent and inquisitive approach to learning.
