Private Tutor for English Language Reading and Writing

Hello, I am Jai, and I have graduated from an American middle school and high school. I am interested in helping middle school, high school, or university students with their essay-writing and reading comprehension skills. The tutor sessions will vary, depending on your goals, motivations, and needs. For instance, if you have a school assignment, we can review your work and go over your strengths and weaknesses; if you want to improve your overall English, we can structure the session as if it were an English high school class (since that is what I am most familiar with). However, since learning a language requires one to read, write, listen, and speak the language, the session will inevitably touch upon these adjacent skills.
The areas I am most experienced with tutoring are: schoolwork, standardized English-language exams (e.g., TOEFL, SAT, AP English Literature and Composition), and proofreading university-level academic writing.

About Me

Hello, I'm Jai, and I would consider English and Korean my native language. I graduated middle and high school in the United States, and I have a Bachelor of Sciences (BSc) in Social Sciences from Amsterdam University College. During my undergraduate studies, for two years, I was an editor for the social sciences in InPrint, a student-led academic journal. As an editor, I was responsible for revising and editing bachelor theses so that they may be published. Since high school, I have tutored English (for beginners), and I enjoy teaching English because I think the language is beautiful. (It's also a great privilege to be fluent in this language--thank you Mom and Dad!)
Something I enjoy most when teaching writing is that everyone has an idea or an opinion; however, students often have difficulty translating those ideas onto paper. I find it both challenging and fun to be with the student as they are formulating their arguments and learning to put those ideas in coherent order (i.e., writing the essay). I also enjoy reading a passage with the student and hearing their reactions to the text. It's always fascinating how people react differently to the same passage (although it's my job to make sure they don't gloss over some key points in the text)!
