GCSE's, Pages, & Screens. English Literature Lessons Designed around you!
From 19 £ /h
It can be hard to analyse the novels, prose, and poetry put before you in school. Many teachers may sound loony reading too deeply into the colour of a curtain. It is not hard to see why many people today don't enjoy reading.
My classes are about more than helping you reach your GCSE targets (although we will assuredly reach them), it is about seeing the skills Literature gives us in our everyday lives. We will focus on your syllabus and we will focus on your exams, but I intend to give you the tools and techniques by looking not only at the texts given by your school but by really engaging with what you look at after school. From the movies you watch, and the TV you binge, to the memes you likely send every day.
I believe that the easiest way to learn things is when you already love the subject. The character development, the themes, the techniques, these are things we already emotionally know and understand, the next step is to give names to those things we see all the time. I find myself using my 1st degree in Creative Writing & English Literature every day when I engage with pop culture. You will learn to appreciate more the things you already love.
After our initial session, classes from then on are tailor-made for you. I have tutored students from beginner to advanced, and understand that everyone comes with their own specific needs. Whether that comes from past exams, textbooks, or practice, we can get you where you need to go.
If a personalised teaching style and curriculum sounds like the thing you need, then please contact me today!

About Me
Hi Everybody.
What I tell everybody who wants to be tutored by me, is that School is full of extrinsic motivations. These are all the things we learn because we need to learn about them, to get good the right grades or avoid some kind of consequence. These are usually not things we truly care about.
Then there are intrinsic motivations, the things we learn because we love to know everything about them, sports statistics, videogame strategies and song lyrics.
There were many subjects in my life that I hated because I didn't care about them, but I had to learn about them. Since coming out of school I have been reintroduced to some of those same subjects, but because this was done in a way that interested me, I fell in love with them.
My teaching style and philosophy for life is that we learn what we love. Literature is a unique subject because it is something you not only need to live in the real world but a subject that makes that world better lived. Every child and every student is a fountain of information for something they hold close to their heart, my goal is to show them the literature that is already there.
