In this course we will begin with an intake interview in which I assess your level and discuss your needs. Following this, I will develop a course to meet your aims.
Everybody's wishes are different. You may want to develop your fluency, broaden your vocabulary, or work on your grammar. Or perhaps you would like to improve your pronunciation or writing skills. It could be a combination of these.
As a highly qualified and vastly experienced teacher I have the necessary skills to be able to draw up a course and find the appropriate resources to aid your progress.
During the course you will get the practice, feedback and guidance needed to improve your English level. At the end of each lesson I will give you homework so that you can continue your practice between sessions and at the beginning of the next lesson I will check your homework with you to make sure you are keeping on track!

About Me
Hello. My name is Mike. I am a CELTA-qualified teacher with over 20 years of experience. I also have a BA Degree in Teaching English and an MA in Advanced Theatre Practices from the Central School of Speech and Drama in London. I am based in Amsterdam and can offer a variety of tailor-made courses to suit your needs, working either face-to-face or online.
I am originally from England and moved to the Netherlands in 1993. For the last twenty years I have worked in both education and the commercial sector, providing countless different courses to hundreds of students of all ages and at all levels. I love teaching because it gives me the opportunity to meet new people and help them achieve their goals. My strength as a teacher is my ability to relate to people, and engage and motivate them in their learning.
My approach to teaching is both student and goal orientated. Student orientated in the sense that I endeavour to nurture a good working relationship based on flexibility, responsiveness and clarity. And goal orientated in that I am aware of the different language sub-skills that need to be mastered in order to reach a particular goal. My background in drama allows me to effectively use role-play techniques to help students improve their communication skills.

Would you like to pass a Cambridge English Exam? I will assess your level, help you set up a suitable exam date, and work with you to help you achieve your aim.
Cambridge exams test your ability in using the four language skills: Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking. During this course you will improve your proficiency in each of these areas and you will also develop test strategies to help you pass each part of the exam.
