My name is João, his professional Classical Guitar with more than 15 years of experience. He has studied guitar performance at the Prince Claus Conservatoire in Holland and in Musical Pedagogy at the University of Aveiro. For beginners I teach the basics + foundations of the guitar and, for the adventurous, I teach fingerstyle guitar from a variety of styles: from Folk (Eddie Vedder) to Chet Atkin's style up to the moderns Tommy Emmanuel and Calum Graham.
This technique is very enriching and gives a lot of freedom to the player. There can be a component of music theory + improvisation which is inherent to this teaching in order to assimilate the subjects the best way possible.

I work with individual students goals and objectives.

Teaching concepts:
- Chords
- Rhythm
- Finger Independence
- Scales + Arpeggios
- Fingerstyle Patterns
- Simple Drums on the guitar
- Song Learning (Repertoire)
- Bass Lines
- Arranging + Composing for the guitar
- Improvisation + Licks

Styles: Folk, Pop, Blues, Jazz, Swing, Country, etc.

(**LOCATION** : I'm in Brussels from October to the end of May, in Lisbon from June to end of September)

I am a piano teacher with a specialized Master in Music Education and 19 years of teaching experience, in official music conservatoires, academies and private lessons. I am currently doing my PhD in Musical Sciences: Teaching and Psychology of Music.
I also have a Master in Music: Piano, and a Postgraduation in Music in Childhood: Intervention and Research.

I tailor my lessons to each student, according to their interests, levels, and learning goals.
I love to teach and I have continuously done it privately and in official music schools, with students from beginner to advanced levels, from 3 to about 70 years old.
With my help you can learn from a basic to an advanced level, develop musically and technically, read and interpret any score.

I have also participated in several piano masterclasses with world-renowned pianists and performed as a soloist and as a chamber musician in venues in Portugal, The Netherlands, Sweden, Belgium and the United Kingdom.

At the piano we can learn how to play music you love, how to freely improvise (through a practical use of theoretical knowledge of music) and how to write musical thoughs you may have.
I am Francesca, 31, italian, i had a strong classical training, and after my academic piano studies i needed to open to jazz and songwriting.

My will is to offer a comprehensive and pleasurable approach to music, and to keep the focus on the needs and desires that bring my student close to the piano.

It is never too late to start or resume learning piano! My teaching experience makes me a witness to this.

Perhaps you came looking for piano lessons because you wish to be able to play some particular pieces, or to develop specific skills. Or maybe you don't know what your goal is yet, but are fond of the sound of the piano and want to dive into this wonderful instrument. Whatever the case, I am looking forward to hearing from you and discussing your next step!

I try as much as possible to tailor the work with each individual student aiming at the goals set and the student's musical tastes. This becomes more the case the higher the student's level of experience. Nevertheless, beginners are also encouraged to suggest music for themselves to learn.

The work on pieces is combined with other important activities designed to develop finger dexterity, hand coordination, rhythmic sense, music reading, playing by ear, etc. The Cortot, Hanon and scale exercises are some of my frequent choices for the technical work.

For young beginners, I defend a no-book approach during the first 2 or 3 months, for three main reasons: it makes learning more fun, it unlocks our creative potential and it allows us to explore the instrument rather confidently and freely. Instead of learning how to read right from the start, students have the opportunity to play games, listen to music, sing, compose, and improvise over backing tracks, developing the core skills necessary for any musical activity later on. After this period, it is then time to introduce them to a method book. The one I recommend the most is Piano Safari.

For teenage and adult beginners, the activities described above are selected and adjusted, and theory concepts may be introduced at an earlier stage. If desired, graded level series such as the RSL Classical or Contemporary Piano, among others, may be opted for.

Please notice that my scheduling may not always be up to date on this website, so the best way to know my availability is sending me a message. Feel free to get in touch for any other questions as well!

Looking forward to meeting you soon,

Rodrigo
