This class is for students of any age who wish to learn the transverse flute. Learning an instrument takes time and commitment, but it's hugely rewarding - and it doesn't have to be boring! I have experience teaching students of all age and levels and I specialise in tailoring my teaching to meet the individual needs of each student. Beginner flute lessons are suitable for students learning from scratch or those already playing up to about ABRSM Grade 2 level. In beginner flute lessons, you will learn the fundamentals of making a sound and play your first notes, as well as the basics of reading music. As lessons progress, you will learn your first short pieces and maybe even prepare for graded exams. Intermediate lessons are suitable for students already playing at about ABRSM Grade 3 to Grade 5 levels. In these lessons, you will build on what you already know to expand your abilities on the flute. You will learn more about different musical styles and techniques and develop more confidence to express yourself through music. Advanced lessons are for students already playing at about ABRSM Grade 6 and beyond. Depending on each student, lessons could involve growing more skills to take the advanced grade or diploma exams exams through to learning the skills to put together a recital programme or prepare for a music college audition. There is wide scope in these lessons to focus on your areas of interest, while still keeping an eye on the solid foundations of good flute technique and musicianship.

About my tutoring: In my tutoring sessions, I will work with students to help them achieve their best grades. A typical lesson will include understanding content, mastering exam technique, and attempting and improving past exam question answers. I believe the best way to learn is in an active and engaging way, so this is how my classes will be, with lots of discussions and active recall to ensure understanding and embedding of knowledge and skill is maximised. About me: I am a current undergraduate student studying biology and chemistry at Cambridge University, so I understand the difficulty and pressure of exams and want to help students prepare and take away some of that worry and stress. I have also had experience teaching science in high school, so have deep-rooted knowledge surrounding science education. I truly understand the best ways to prepare and revise for GCSEs and A Levels, and have straight grade 9s and A*s to prove this. Students learn chord shapes, rhythm, fingerpicking and song based playing, with an emphasis on supporting vocals and storytelling through the guitar. More personal and artistic With a background in Irish folk music, my guitar teaching centres on feel, rhythm and connection to the song. I aim to develop your confidence with movement and body awareness throughout our sessions, and also work on your freestyling, skills picking up choreography, or even help you choreograph something of your own if you wish! Having fun is key to progressing, and we will get to improve technique and confidence along the way! My sessions are an hour long but 15 mins of those minutes are dedicated to warming up, cooling down and also discussing your day / week and your mental state before we start.
