TEACHING EXPERIENCE: I am committed to empowering individuals to get to know, explore and realise the full potential of their own voice and dedicated to helping pupils to develop skills and achieve potential. My vocal training is informed by the Estill method and The Natural Voice, giving me an excellent knowledge of vocal anatomy and of how the voice works. I am a member of the Natural Voice Network. I teach the Folk Choir and solo folk singing at Morley College, London as well as leading community choirs, working in schools and teaching freelance. I have a City & Guilds Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector. LESSONS: My teaching style is enjoyable, engaging and motivating. I tailor repertoire and teaching methods to suit individual pupil needs. I bring my wide musical experience to my teaching, drawing from pop, classical music, folk, music theatre, jazz and music from around the world. I have a large repertoire of traditional English, Irish & Scottish folk songs which I share with pupils when teaching traditional folk singing. In additon to teaching singing, I teach songwriting and music theory, drawing on my years of practical experience. As a cello teacher I teach the ABRSM grades. Allow me to introduce myself my name is Ella and I am a London-based soprano and theory teacher, with a teaching studio in Hampshire/West Sussex too. I have been teaching singing for 7 years now, with ages ranging from 7-70; I find it a complete joy and I love seeing students working to better themselves while being excited by music, vocal technique, and improvement. I am a classically trained operatic Soprano with three years of training in a Masters of Performance degree in Vocal and Opera Studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. I then went on to study at the prestigious and world-renowned Guildhall School Opera Course. I believe in a holistic approach to singing, addressing the whole body, and maintaining a healthy vocal development whilst having a great deal of fun exploring repertoire. I first studied theory myself at Ditcham Park School, where I was a pupil and music scholar, from 2001-2006. I have continued to study and enjoy it ever since! I was Deputy Head Girl when I reached form 5 and from there, went on to study Music at Godalming College, heading the chamber choir among other small ensembles. I then proceeded to undertake a BMus (Hons) Music Degree at Royal Holloway, where I obtained a 2:1, graduating in July 2013. In my two gap years, I worked in the music department at Dunhurst and Bedales School, teaching everything from singing to the recorder, classroom music, and theory to 8-18-year-olds. I thoroughly enjoy teaching and found it incredibly rewarding, helping a large number of children with different needs and abilities. Particularly gratifying were those who were struggling, especially when they wound up achieving scholarships, high GCSE and A level grade as well as other musical achievements. Music theory is a crucial skill for many reasons, which I`m sure you’re familiar with. In music, unlike other fields, there is no difference between theory and practice. It heightens a pupil’s ability to write, perform and detect errors in music, improve critical reasoning skills and it expands options as a musician and performer as well as developing excellent scholarship. It has been proven incredibly advantageous when run alongside GCSE and A level music, of which I am very familiar with the syllabuses. From my other teaching experience, I have found it beneficial to the other instrumentalist peripatetics who can’t afford to use the time teaching theory when the pupil needs practical instrumental tuition.

My methodology: As a singing teacher, I come into daily contact with topics such as voice training, literature development and interpretation. I am currently focusing more on functional voice training and the “Experiential Breath” according to Ilse Middendorf. I teach classical singing, musicals, chanson, pop, rock and soul. I always focus on the natural voice. What is important to me is healthy and... Natural handling of the voice, the breath and the body. With regard to the songs, songs and arias, the lyrical interpretation is very important to me. To do this, you learn to put yourself in situations and different characters. The singing lessons take place online. And that is what you need besides your voice: > A sufficient internet connection > and if possible a microphone. (If you don't have a microphone, let's try it out first.) My experience: My academic career began in 2010 with a degree in instrumental pedagogy and school music with a major in piano and singing at the Detmold University of Music. As part of an Erasmus course, I focused more on classical singing. From 2012 to 2014 I studied singing at the “Escuela Superior de Canto de Madrid” singing school with Héctor Guerrero in Madrid. At the same time I worked at the theater company “RESIDUI TEATRO” in Madrid, where I gained my first experiences as a theater composer. Thanks to this, I began to focus on song, theater and film composition. I completed a Master of Music in Songwriting in Bath (England) in 2017 and a diploma in film music at the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy in 2019. I have been performing my own compositions since 2017. Her debut album “Recuerdo” will be released in 2021 with Spanish songs. To this day I regularly take part in competitions and training courses. Throughout my academic career I taught voice and piano to private students. I also led a women's choir and a women's quartet.
