My name is May and I'm a singer/songwriter/producer. I have 18 years of vocal technique experience working with some International vocal coaches such as Nick Cooper (Beyonce, Sam Smith, Nicki Minaj). As a singer, I've been releasing music for the past 9 years, I started my career in musicals but soon realized that my true interest resided in a solo career as a Pop/Alternative artist. I've been teaching family and friends since my young age so went on to teaching anyone. I've worked with people who damaged my vocal cords as a child and so have learned the risks and am very careful and gentle in that matter especially with younger aspiring singers. I teach the importance of breathing correctly, using your voice in a healthy way, warming up the voice to avoid any damage and techniques on singing songs in a more interesting way. We sing a specific song thing by the student at the beginning and at the end to compare the progress made during the lesson. My lessons are tailored to each student’s age, experience, and goals. Children (7–12 years old) For younger students, lessons focus on building confidence while making learning fun. We begin with simple vocal warm-ups and ear training to develop pitch and intonation, then move on to singing their favourite songs, encouraging good vocal habits in an enjoyable way. Teenagers (12-17 years old) With teenage students, we start with more structured vocal warm-ups and exercises. As we discover their natural voice, we work on developing a comfortable vocal range, improving technique, and applying these skills through songs that suit their voice and interests. Adults and seniors (18+) For adult students, lessons are usually divided into two parts. We begin with vocal technique, focusing on breathing, diaphragm support, scales, arpeggios, and intonation. We then apply these techniques through singing, helping you develop confidence, control, and healthy vocal habits. I will give you repertoire to study or we will study the pieces you have to prepare. The final goal will be to sing on a musical accompaniment. Every student learns at a different pace. Some may spend more time building a solid technical foundation before moving on to more challenging repertoire, and that’s perfectly fine. My priority is to ensure that every student feels comfortable, supported, and confident throughout their vocal journey. I teach children, teenagers, and adults and seniors from complete beginners to advanced singers. My classical training provides a strong technical foundation that can be applied to any musical style, whether you enjoy pop, musical theatre, jazz, rock, or classical singing. I am a professional opera singer, soprano, and current soloist at the Cologne Opera (Oper Köln, Germany), with stage experience at major European houses including Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Musiktheater Pforzheim, and Dutch Touring Opera. Passionate about the performing arts, I have worked in theatre, dance and music. I began my singing career with musical theatre and then opera. I teach alongside my stage activities because it is a joy to share the love of singing, a discipline that is rich physically, artistically and mentally. I enjoy exploring and researching with my students to help them bring out and develop their voices to the fullest extent of their abilities. My courses are based on 3 main principles: - Vocal technique: developing a healthy and solid technique, giving confidence and freedom while singing. Breathing, muscle support, stretching and vocal range homogeneity, agility... - Musicality: ear training, sense of rhythm, phrasing, exploration of vocal nuances and colors - Interpretation: Text work, projection, repertoire discovery, song construction I divide the sessions into half an hour of technical exercises adapted to the level and needs, then another half hour devoted to learning a piece.
