Trusted teacher: I am a professional music teacher, and I specialize in drums, guitar, and piano. I have been highly recommended and described by my previous students as 'fun and easy to get along with', 'very easy to understand and learn from', and 'a talented music teacher with a professional and enjoyable attitude'. I teach from a beginner to an expert level on each instrument and absolutely love to inspire all generations to enhance their musical skills to the fullest. I am currently looking to take on younger students nearer the beginner level, but am more than happy to take on intermediate to advanced musicians of all ages as well. I teach in a very practical way, encouraging students to take what I show them step by step, as I break down and go through each task with them, working at a pace which suits them best. I will work to strengthen the student's ability behind the instrument as a whole, whilst focusing on their areas that need development and introducing new, challenging exercises each lesson, which will allow them to improve at a healthy pace. My aim above all else is to make sure the student enjoys themselves and comes out of every lesson feeling eager and excited for the next one! With that I aim to get the student as comfortable and confident behind the instrument as possible and to inspire them to express themselves through it. Side note: I only teach Grades on the drums (up to Grade 8), and guitar (up to Grade 4). I do not teach Grades on the piano, as I much prefer to teach on playing ability and self-expression through the instrument rather than sight-reading. However, other than sight-reading, I am happy to teach everything you will find in the Graded books and more. I teach anything from classical to contemporary music on the piano.

I have extensive training in music and singing and have attended The Brit School, gaining Triple Distinction* as well as Trinity Laban Conservatoire, where I graduated this year with a first class honours degree. For five months of my degree I was awarded an Erasmus scholarship to study Norwegian folk music at The Grieg Academy, Norway. This trip helped to sculpt my music and my current projects take a lot of influence from folk as well as free jazz and free improvisation. I have taught privately for two years after training for eight years. I teach budding vocalists of all ages. I have helped prepare students for exams as well as encouraged students back into singing after years out of practice. I like to take a creative approach with students, to engage with them about short and long term goals as well as encouraging them to keep practice diaries to document their progress and for self evaluation. I am very passionate about teaching as I believe it is one of the most rewarding activities - watching someone grow as they learn not only the basics of technique but when they start to develop their own sound. I believe I am an inspiring teacher and firm but fair when it comes to homework and discipline. I provide support to the students and have received feedback showing I am encouraging and helpful after each and every lesson - “ 5/5, Fantastic lessons - Rowan is great at giving feedback and at helping me set, review and achieve my personal goals. I always come away believing I have improved my knowledge and feeling inspired.” Jasmine Gorsuch, previous student. Over the last couple of years I have performed in many settings in the UK, Norway and China and have invaluable experience gigging with various ensembles. I can help students with how to lead a band confidently once they are at that level. I am also proficient in teaching composition and music theory as well as some more advanced jazz theory and harmony. I also have knowledge in music business and event planning as well as how to market yourself as an artist.

Trusted teacher: I teach online via Zoom, using software which allows you to see the exact keys I'm playing on my keyboard. My teaching method is to focus on whatever type of music the student loves most, and to build from there. I believe that many people give up their dream of playing an instrument simply because they aren't inspired enough, so my goal is to instill a love for music, whatever that means personally for each individual student. Everyone learns differently and has their own pace and rhythm. I have some students who like to have a regular weekly or biweekly lesson, and others who just get in touch once in a while when they have digested the previous lesson and feel ready to build on it. Whatever the case, I am very flexible and we can figure out what works best for you. A bit about me: Originally honing my skills on the British jazz scene and holding residencies in restaurants and bars around the country, I then went on to tour the world playing on cruise ships, hotels and festivals. I returned to London to complete my master's in jazz piano at the Guildhall School of Music, and during this time performed regularly at Ronnie Scotts, The Vortex and many other venues across the UK. I then spent two years in South America learning about salsa and Cuban music. I now mainly work as a transcriber, writing sheet music for all instruments including full Big Band scores. I have also worked extensively in musical theatre, most recently as musical director for 'Jersey Boys', and on the first US national tour of 'Summer: the Donna Summer Musical'. The video shown below is from my stint playing and directing 'After Midnight', a show set to the music of the Duke Ellington Big Band.

I had previously played some classical for a few years, but was looking to learn jazz piano and improvisation as well. For this David is ideal, as he studied both as a classical and jazz musician, and has a deep understanding of each. About half the lessons we focus on jazz improvisation. During the lessons I improvise over a few songs, and each session he gives feedback, while adding a new layer of difficulty. We've also worked a lot on rhythm, which has really helped me bridge the gap between classical and jazz. We spent a few lessons on classical pieces as well, to refine technique and musicality. My playing feels much more fluid and musical already, and he's really helpful/knowledgeable with the details. Also, on the weeks where I did have not had much time to practice, we do a more (jazz) theory oriented lesson, which has also helped alot with my improvisation. Overall, I only have positive things to say about the lessons! David is a very easy-going teacher, and from the first lesson I felt very comfortable asking him questions. He's very versatile as well, and easily adapts the lesson according to what suits us best that week.

This is review is based after my very first lesson and I look foreword to doing the other lessons. Cameron was very professional; he knows his stuff and most importantly was able to understand what I was trying to achieve and suggests ways to accomplishing this. He has given me some home work which includes a listening list and feedback on developing some old pieces and a new project. I feel really motivated. I have a lot of experience in learning different disciplines to post grad level so I can say with some authority that clicking and connecting with a tutor is not a guarantee regardless of how knowledge they are..there are other qualities in addition to knowledge that is needed and as a a tutor, Cameron has what it takes. I dont really leave reviews so it is a testament that i have done so.
